  • Chip / Reflash for Pirelli GTi

    hey all

if the heavens are shining on me, there is a good chance ill be getting a Pirelli GTi very shortly.

I plan to chip it as most people do (or have), but only know of APR acknowledging the difference in engine and thus output after the flash.

My only concern is the other chip manufacturers from what ive seen (insert rival company here) only do chips for the regular GTis and maybe if they put a normal GTi reflash on the Pirelli, might not work correctly, maybe even damage the engine. (on a side note, im not a big fan of "off the shelf" tuning flashes).

I know about the GIACs self learning capabilities etc, and on their website they do list a TFSi with a High Pressure K04, but is it suitable? Whats high pressure? are they talking PSI as in high boost? Should i be looking at reflashes for S3 engines instead?

Are all the currently chipped Pirelli owners using APR???

    cheers

You need to be looking at the tunes for the ED30 Golf V.
That is what superchips/Bluefin have it listed as:
Bluefin engine remapping uses an ECU remap for your diesel or petrol engine and delivers better performance. Engine tuning with ECU chipping for diesel and petrol engines.

local dealer - price at time of posting is $840:

Edit - just saw you'd already found bluefin - can't hurt to have the links here as reference

I was told by an APR representative that both APR and Oetinger are now owned by the same holding sister company. Oetinger market predominantly to the europeans, and APR to the yanks... Or at least that's what he told me.

He also said the APR Pirelli tune is slightly better than the Oetinger, and couples to cheaper after market exhausts options (APR exhausts are cheaper than Oetinger).

My pirelli is literally days away (left Melbourne on Friday night.... ) Yellow 5 door with all the options (bi-xenons, sat nav, rear sensors) - so I should have it by the end of the month.

It's getting the APR + exhaust combo (240+kw and 400NM+ torque.. wow), plus the big 360mm brembo package up front, as well as new brembo rotors on the rears.

            Gonna be one spicy meat-a-ball!!!

thanks for you links too. I just did a dummy buy on the superchips site and it came to 800 flat inc shipping.

wonder where the $40 comes from? guess he gotta make money some how.

i have emailed superchips asking what RON their chips are tuned at. am i safe to assume that it should ie be 93-95 that using 98 will yield a coupla extra HP?

so far bluefin looks to be the best bang for your buck.

$800 for 80 hp equals $10 bucks per HP
compared to APR $1995 for (im guessing 90 cuz everyone says their more) equals $22 bucks per HP.

              edit:
actually, im all confused again. bluefin claims 61hp but their graph reads 63hp if you use the numbers. it also shows the final output being 307hp??? the APR tells 229kw which is 300hp+ thus 80hp more?!?!?!

Before this thread gets stupid, please make your own decision. Gets too dumb otherwise.
I had a 2LTDI in the workshop that someone bought secondhand. It was only getting 7.3 litres per 100. no fault codes but it has been chipped or flashed. Went nicely but consumption was rubbish.
Mine improved with the flash in normal day to day driving.

nah, ive read too many "which chip" threads.

the hand was put up to see if the pirellis had different flashes which they do.

its now up to the manus to see which one is the best. btw, couldnt find anything about giac flashes on the pirellis.

Let me tell you the most important thing to consider! And that is when the **** hits the fan and something goes wrong, who is going to give you the best after sales support?? I flashed my pirelli after considering all companies in the market ie: APR, BLUEFIN, REVO, GIAC, SUPERCHIPS ETC. I decided to go with APR. Trust me, When the **** hits the fan, the eurobased companies are not here to give you the support that APR can give you.

Your worried about 2k for a flash when you paid 50k+ for your car? Cheaper very seldom is better. Don't worry about who has the biggest numbers for the cheapest price. Worry about who will back you 100% in the event something might happen to your car and the dealer knows that the car has been modified. Its clearly spelled out that you modify your car the warranty goes from black and white to all shades of grey. And remember that the dealer is well within there rights to do dispute warranty, as they need to protect themselves also.

Mate stop busting your balls over this. Its easy...GO APR!!!! BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE BEST AVAILABLE SUPPORT NETWORK IN AUSTRALIA!!!!!

                    thanks pete and guy!!

                    Cheers

Umm - well the factory tune recommends 98 to start with. You be crazy to try and save a few cents using 95 on a remapped car.

Plenty in the UK have gone with Bluefin and had good results. I'd say the APR tune is VERY similar to the Oettinger one as this engine is not available in the USA. For that reason I doubt GIAC will have one.

If you're comfortable having support over the internet the Bluefin option would be hard to resist given the price difference at the moment. If you rather having onsite support go with APR - either way I'm sure you will love it.

How much you get paid to push that!?

APR couldn't even fit James G in for 15 minutes to have his stock file put back on even though he has to drive 200kms to get there. They then pushed him back 1 week.

Dude, GIAC have tunes for the K04 kits. Does the Pirelli not run a K04?? So how can they not have a tune?
