Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yes, the GT has been returned to the owner, the ECU's are now "unlocked" for calibration, we hope to have the APR Calibrators here in Brisbane Early next year.
Because I understood that they ARE different.
Will that mean 2 different upgrades?2007 Golf GT | DSG | TR | roof | iPod rubbish | R line fog grilles | R satin mirror caps | R pedals | R console trim | colour coded GTI valences | R32 Ormanyts

^ someone please delete Guy's post. Don't give them ideas.
Hopefully the 1.4 litre aspect (that size is something to do with EU regs???) will mean that twin-charging this type of engine will actually cost VW less in the long run when it comes to total emissions. (And what they have to pay for them in the EU).

Cool to see this engine appearing in a few new models from VW (and Audi... and Seat?) lately.
Good time of year to do some hot weather testing on the new map, huh Guy?
Where are the APR calibrators coming from?
Aus at this time of year could be a welcome relief for most folks from the Northern Hemisphere.

Like the TT!:
Edit: ...and the updated Skoda (Euro version) and apparently VW plans to introduce a 1.2 TSI shortly.
Looks like the latest 1.4 is yet another (less powerful) version - 10hp it seems.
So at least there won't be just one market of TSI owners (GTs & GT Sport) seeking upgrades!Last edited by BarneyBoy; 12-01-2009, 07:22 PM.2007 Golf GT | DSG | TR | roof | iPod rubbish | R line fog grilles | R satin mirror caps | R pedals | R console trim | colour coded GTI valences | R32 Ormanyts

Guy,
I was talking to my mechanic the other day who said that the 1.4TSI's supercharger could be altered to not switch off at it's rpm limit (around 2,500rpm from memory). this would mean that it would be twin charged from around 1,900rpm up through the rev range.
any thoughts on this or has anyone else heard otherwise?

I'd be interested to see it engaged from 0rpm upto it's current cutoff point regardless of engine load, ie always engaged from idle to approx 4000rpm.
I'd hate to see what it would do to the economy thoughMY08 Blue Graphite GT TSI DSG

Would be easy enough to do, just leave the electric supercharger pulley always hooked up and the bypass butterfly off, but I figure once the turbo is really getting into boost, the supercharger would be more of a restriction as it's efficiency dropped off and couldn't keep up supply to the turbo, and then all it would be is an air heater. Would probably boost the mid range and kill the top end.
If I had bought the planned TSI I'd be looking into different pulleys / gearing to make the blower work harder when it does, and get a chip / flow mods for the turbo. Oh yeah and DEFINATELY increase the intercooling given the dual heating going on!
