Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Its not a huge problem but I just thought it was a bit strange.
It's probably to allow the seat to ventilate when the seat heaters are used.

Stops the leather rubbing against the centre part and making a sh*tty sound. It also wears the leather quicker if it rubs against that part of the car. its a smart thing VW did there

I still think its cost cutting

My Nissan Murano has heated leather seats and is leater all around. Doesnt rub against the centre console either.

yeah even my little Polo has heated leather seats all the way around and doesn't rub on anything. maybe the seats are a lot closer to the centre console in a Jetta than in a Polo.....oh wait, the Polo doesn't really have a centre console, just a few cup and pen holders

The fabric trim makes perfect sense. In the golf the seats very easily rub on the centre console.

heck on the GTI with someone sitting in them they do actually touch the plastic.

The fabric will wear alot better than the leather. I don't see it as cost cutting at all. Its just logic.

be thankful they didn't cut costs even more by making the seat thinner which would have also cured the touching the centre console thing.

                  edit:

and you nissan murano didn't actually have leather. it had Pleather.

Sorry but you are wrong. My Murano Ti has a full leather interior. Very nice quality leather and plush seats too.

The only car that I can think of that has pleather is the Mercedes Benz C Class with its "man-made" artico leather.

I don't think mine is a MY09 as the VIN number doesnt have any 9 in it. I don't know when they started fitting the side skirts to the TFSI as I havent seen it in any of the pictures. I think it looks a bit funny in black so I will definitely get it painted.

The wheels look better in real life than they do in photos too. I was thinking of upgrading to 18" R32 wheels but I don't think I will bother anymore. These look good and suit the car IMO.

I have only driven it home from the dealer so I can't give a proper first impression yet. I will drive it all day tomorrow and give a review tomorrow night.

I have a few little things to do yet over the christmas break. Gotta fit the Alumium pedals and also the AVC9000. Need to see if theres a way to fit the reverse camera around the license plate area without drilling any holes.

Enjoy the car faisan. But I still think you should seel those rims to me! Oh well, might have to get some RS4 replicas

I also thought the fabric trim on the inside part of the seat was a bit strange but with the bolsters on the seats, they tend to hit the console for people with shorter legs (I'm 6'2 and the missus isn't!). Hasn't detracted from the car itself though, still good fun to drive!

                              Yes...keep the standard alloys.
They are a classic, and are called Classix, the other design used are called Atlantas.
Was in America last year...the GTI models use those alloys, and the sporty Jetta GLI comes with OUR GTI alloys.
Just try to keep them clean.

                                Cloth side trim

The cloth trim on the seat sides are to eliminate noise when driving. You may notice when driving an older car with leather you hear that constant squeeking or rubbing sound. Most cars now have the cloth sides to eliminate this annoyance.
