Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'm the first to have a big turbo kit installed on a DSG car in Australia
I've got GIAC doing a few custom tunes for me for track days.
I know someone else in melb has ordered the kit after driving my car for a few minutes.
I've got the BIGGEST giggles after reading this post

If you have read earlier, I haven't had the chance to dyno my car. Its a business time of the year and I don't have time to take off to dyno during the week and most operators will not open for weekend dyno's.

Using a US dyno gives a fair indication of what my kit will produce. Am I not right?

Lets keep it on topic instead, instead of trying to hi-jack it with pointless commentary.

Good to see this forum has such a nice group of unbiased moderators, to open this thread up again.

            Andrew, Which kit is yours?

Got the VF RSS big turbo kit installed
            Garrett GT2871 Ball bearing turbo
ECU recalibration flash with GIAC 91/93 octane software.
            High Pressure Fuel Pump
            OEM high flow injectors
VF Short Ram Intake with K&N filter
Stage 2 VF Intercooler Set up which is a true FMIC and also incorporates the stock intercooler, very similar to the Forge one.
The VF RSS kit is rated for 385hp at the crank and 350tq on our 98 octane.
VF Engineering focuses on manufacturing high quality and reliable Superchargers, ECU, and TCU performance tunes for European sports cars. We offer a 30 day money back guarantee on software purchases and have dealers across the world.
            Or

On DSG, I was recommended by VF to use the alternative they have which is a GT2860RS turbo. It is rated for power outputs of up to 360hp. However its max efficiency rate is higher at 72%.
So is yours 385 or 360hp? - do a dyno!, can't you get your tuner to do one for you because you are so busy?

                Andrew,
Im also interest to know what your kit really is? How much HP is it rated at producing as Guy has mentions there are 2 types of figures quoted...

Can i meet up with you somewhere in melb and have a look at the car and kit my self with my own eyes? As i have got a GTI myself couple of months ago now and eventually want to go the big turbo path.

                Guy,
I have been reading some different threads and i have seen couple of yours and i would like to know bit more about your kits. Can you please let me know what kind of gains and what HP will i be getting with APR K04 kit and APR big turbo kit?

                Thanks

Hey Stewart, no probs, might be best to start another thread, but in the context of there being two different RSS kits by the look of it - one with 360hp & one with 385hp - that makes the APR S3 / Edition 30 kit with 240kw a great option, as it produces more torque than the Garrett kits.

Its like a big turbo kit without all the fanfare - its also capable of 355hp with 104 ron fuel on stock internals. Other bonus is under the hood, it looks stock as a rock, just one extra factory hose (Actually same under hood as the new Pirelli GTI!)

Definitely pm me and we can organise a meet, I'll get Tony who has the AWE K04 with stock fuelling to come along so you can have a bit of a comparison. I've got the golfmkv cruise this Sunday. Feel free to join.

As mentioned earlier, the US calculate torque output slightly differently from the way it is calculated here. So again by comparing the US dyno to the ones done, here is no comparing apples to apples. I used it simply as an indication of the power it creates.

There isn't two kits. Its two turbo options depending on which gearbox you have. As one spools faster than the other slightly. Every other part is the same. There is slightly some tuning differences. Another thing that the GIAC tune does is also recalibrate the fuel consumption shown on the MFD. By changing the size of injectors, you need to recode a part of the ECU for it to show accurate fuel consumption.

                      Because I have the DSG.

My kit is the GT2860RS turbo. All other parts are the same as the VF RSS kit with the GT2871 turbo. I do have the option to go with the GT2871, but I spoke with Garrett at GIAC and he told me I would have more fun with the GT2860RS with my DSG.

Unfortunately Guy, I do need my car on a daily basis. But I do have time off during from Mid-Dec to Christmas. I will be in Sydney with my car, maybe we can meet up at Mainline Dyno's and do it than. Let me know if your able to make it. It would be great for others out there to see how each of our kits run.

Actually Andrew, Dean is organising a dyno thats open on Saturday for you in Melbourne - I think he has already found three that will do your car on a Saturday for you.

He wants to run his compared to yours. His car with the race spec stuff on it wont work on Fitzy's dyno because the subframe bottoms out, so he's happy to help you out & find a place for both of you!

Happy to send my car to Melbourne - I think it has to go down for a media event soon - do you want to do the media comparison / car comparison in Melbourne? - will try to organise it for a weekend because we all know how busy you are!

Hey Steve, only the 2871R - as Andrew mentioned, its really the only one (in this topic) thats capable of over 360hp (Garretts spec).

                              Guys,

If you're interested, I am good friends with Jason from Southern Motor Works in Wollongong (1 hour south of Sydney). They have a Mainline AWD Dyno that we could use for a Dyno day on a Saturday at some point?

Could organise a get together for a Dyno day with a run up Maquarie pass twisties to Robertson Pie shop (best pies in the land) and through Jambaroo either before or after the Dyno day ??

Being South - 1 hour less for Melbourneites to travel too ?
thoughts ??? let me know possible dates, and I can have a chat to them ??

They have done Dyno days before and put on full BBQ spread etc.

                              These are the guys
