Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Dashboard LCD Replacement

I’ve seen a few faded/dead Golf 5 LCDs in dashboards… mine seems to be intermittently bad… as a Christmas Eve project I thought I’d research how easy it would be to replace the LCD display and came across this German tutorial… turn on English captions if your German is as bad as mine…

Its a pretty common failure on the Mk5 generation Golf's/Jetta's and similar era Passat's etc.

    Should be a nice DIY.

      Thank you, super handy. [emoji109]

About to look into the LCD replacement on my Jetta. If I don't feel comfortable doing the replacement, do I need a VW specialist or will an Auto-electrician be able to do the swap?

      Thanks [emoji1690]

Thank you @Lucas_R [emoji109] You have been a happy customer in the past?

They're in Townsville, I'm in Cairns, about 4h drive. They appear to be worthy of the trip though and/or may travel up themselves. There are quite a few VDubs in the Townsville area and I am expecting to do the trip after a 200k service. Works in well, cheers. [emoji1690]
