Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 1.4 TSI Swap to CAVD or CTHD

    Hi All,

I'm new here and was hoping could get some advice and help from someone.

I recently purchase and MK5 GT 07 and it did came with engine issue with cylinder 1 having no compression at all. I've read that they do have failed piston rings and are very common issues on these models. However i've also read that the CTHD is a much better version and upgrade with no fail pistons issues whereas the CAVD has to be well maintain to prevent such issues.

I'm planning to do a swap rather than fixing the engine and was wondering if anyone has any clue or advice if a swap can be done from a BLG to a CAVD or CTHD Engine. I tried to look online but can only seems to see CAVD to CTHD swap.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

    Regards
    Cedric
