Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

After having removed and reinstalled my wiper assembly the wipers will no longer go into service position. When I initially removed the wiper arms they were in the service position as well as when I reinstalled them. However whenever I try and do it now (ignition on, ignition off, hold down wiper stalk) they do nothing? Did I mess something up with the motor when I removed it?

The wipers work but just don’t go in to service position? Is that correct.

Did you just pull the wiper arms off or wiper mechanism/motor out?

The wipers work fine. I pulled the whole wiper mechanism out but I didn't detach the motor from the arms.
Reinstalled everything the way I pulled it out.

I don’t suppose you’ve done a VCDS scan by any chance?
Did you disconnect the wiring when you pulled it out.

Ignition on then off and tap stalk down should be the procedure but you obviously know that as you’ve done it before.
I was thinking maybe bonnet switch faultbut that would stop the wipers altogether.

No VCDS faults, yeah disconnected the wiring before I removed it

That’s very odd behavior I’ve been having a look through all the docs I can get my hands on can’t see anything that would indicate a problem. I don’t have access to my daughters golf at the moment and the wife would shoot me if I pulled her Amarok apart to see I noticed though in one doc it specifies that the wipers should be in the parked position before disconnecting them and the battery should be disconnected first. Maybe disconnecting and reconnecting may reset the integral controller??

My wipers were up in the service position when when I removed the arms so I'm thinking that has messsed it up. Battery disconnect is the only thing I haven't tried yet.

I guess thats an easy one to try. Also I wonder if there is an adaption in VCDS for wiper postioning??

Did a battery disconnect with no luck. Don't think there's anything in VCDS I can find to do with wiper positioning. Gonna make this my VW dealer's problem at my next service.

By chance managed to fix this today. Used the wiper motor coding from my other Mk5 Golf in the R32 and it solved the issue.
