Earphone jack in Mk5 GTI

I just looked at a new Mk5 GTI and it has a standard type earphone jack in the centre console.

Is that standard in the GTI?

Is that what everyone refers to as an ipod adaptor or is the ipod adaptor a proprietry connection specifically for an ipod. I don't have an ipod, but do have an MP3 player, so don't want a connection specifically for an ipod.

dude, if it's a headphone sized plug, then it is an audio plug... you can plug your laptop into it if you like.

its an aux-in plug. so basically get a cord with standard 3.5mm headphone plugs on each end and you can plug any sound device into it and play it through the car stereo.

Handy if you have something to plug into it, in my mk3 I added a new stereo that has the AUX in and USB and never bothered even connecting the AUX in, just don't see the advantage... mind you I don't have an iPod (I use my phone or laptop for music) and with plenty of music on USB ...

Still if you want it, thats what it's there for

Standard fitting on the car? No. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to whether a car is fitted with one or not.

it seems to come with most gti's. and yes its a standard size if thats what you meant by standard

My 2007 GTI didn't come with one.

It's standard on MY08 models.

Its not standard on MY08 models. Its seems a majority of 3 doors come with them but only a few 5 doors.

It's listed as standard on the MY08 model GTI's. Some cars for some reason didn't come with it but the dealers have been fitting them.

Have you checked the box behind the handbrake, it's hard to see as it goes in where the AC outlet used to be? And it can also be in the glovebox on some cars.
