Was quoted $350+ for a replacement from VW including the hose attachment. Equivalent kits (same part no's) from China on eBay can be had for <$50.

I got a China canister for my Mk6 GTI and it worked fine. I figured that even if i had to replace it several times i would still be in front. Cost was around $60 from memory. -
Purchased the evap from China, but purchased the tube from Vw (the Chinese tube had a big kink in it).
Seems to be fine.Comment
