Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    HANKOOK VENTUS RS-2's

    ARE WHERE ITS AT!

NEW Super high silica compound (rare). Treadwear rating thats less than 150 (GRIP!)

I had them on my subaru and they would grip like limpet mines with 300kw@wheels.

They are almost twice as grippy as the Pirelli rosso's mentioned earlier which have a much higher treadwear rating.

They are one notch above the street legal semi slick race tyres.

I will be whacking these on my GT once the conti's wear out for sure as it will almost eliminate wheelspin and bring the 0-100 down big time.

    Technology
The Ventus R-S2 Z212 radials feature Hankook's High Grip Silica Compound featuring an advanced resin technology used for their racing tires molded into a directional tread design. Wide continuous shoulders, intermediate ribs and center rib increase rubber-to-road contact, reduce distortion while cornering and enhance responsiveness on dry roads. Wide circumferential grooves and large shoulder notches help water flow through the tire's footprint to resist hydroplaning.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by two-ply high-density, spirally wrapped jointless nylon. Additionally, a two-layer rayon carcass that sandwiches a hard sidewall filler and steel side reinforcements between the body cord plies helps resist distortion at high speeds and while cornering.

*Disclaimer - Don't rely on me, seek your own professional advice. Audi R8 E-tron. 230kw 4500nm! (not a typo).

Just use this site, phone a store and give it a shot! http://www.donnellans.com.au/
I would suggest anything under $200 is not a bad price.

I have had my GTi (MKIV) cocking a rear on these tires... Time for a rear brace!
I have also found (as stated before) that pushing the limit on these tires on public roads is a gamble! In some places on my normal twistie routes 90km/h was quick through some places, now its 110!

The RE001's are also a silica compound.

      Cheers.

        hmmmm.

5400km and my conti cs2's are down to 80% on the front.

        Whoops.

Mind you the rubber is worn very, very nicely. No tearing, scuffing or any other damage to report. VW have done a pretty damn good job with the suspension for me to be able to drive like I have been and not get any tread carnage.

That depends, if I see a blue GT-P with a very loud zorsst, I might just decide that pushing the brake pedal was to hard

Speak to the tyre dudes, the RE030 is a touring tyre. I dont think it really compares with the 050 and the 001. From what I can make up, the RE050 is an OEM fitted tyre by a lot of manufacturers and this pushes the price up. The RE001 is a tyre made specifically as an aftermarket tyre thus I think this helps to keep the price down and the performance up. Having said that, I don't know what the 050 would be like compared to the 001's.

Also, depending on what you want from your car, the er300's may be better if not doing performance stuff.

Think of the 001's as a Ferrari for an M3 price

I'm looking for tyres at moment to replace the original Bridgestone Potenza RE050 (225/45/R17). The Bridgestones have been excellent, good road holding, not excessively noisy and have done 47,000 KM with a bit of life in them but I'll replace them now.

I have no idea what to fit, when I rang Bridgestone a few weeks ago they said there was no stock of RE050 available, they suggested ER300 at $252.00 each, closest to RE050 they had were RE050A (assymetric) at $369.00 each...pretty exxy I reckon. Looking at the Bridgestone website, ER300 are listed as "premium touring", RE050 and Adrenalin (RE001) are listed as "premium performance". Seems a big price difference to spj's price (although of course we are talking 17" x 45 profile not 16" x 50).

Anybody have first hand experience of RE001 Vs RE030 or any suggestions?

            Cheers

Ended up buying the RE001s, only been on there a week and 800 Km. Haven't given them a real work out yet, they feel OK but give the impression they are less grippy than the RE050s (not forgetting they are $120 each cheaper than the RE050) No excessive tyre noise, will be interesting to see how they compare a way down the track.

              Cheers

Couldn't get close to spj,s figure of $170 but then we are talking 16" to 17"! Best deal I could get was $250 each supplied, fitted and balanced. Quotes ranged from $250 to $338! Size is 225/45/17

                  Cheers
