Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Dsg misbehaving... Help!

Was driving home from work today and the dsg in my gti decided it would take a bit of a nap.

After 10 mins of driving and from a take off it just revved like it was in neutral. Looked at the dash and PRNDS were flashing... Turned car on / off a few times but nothing. Couldn't even push the thing as it felt like it was stuck in gear.

    Codes below appeared:
    P0784 (power train)4-5 shift
    P0829 (power train)
P2711 (power train) unexpected mechanical gear disengagement.

After a few minutes of the car being off and people beeping as they had to drive around all seemed good and car was driveable.

Some quick googling shows many possibilities.... Has anybody experienced similar issues?

150k on the odo and its had its 2 dsg services on time (60k intervals).

    Thoughts anybody?

These are the generic SAE codes.
You need to use something like VCDS to get the manufacturer specific info out of the faults to make a proper diagnosis.

Thanks mate. I retrieved these while at the side of the road...

I'll pull out the laptop with vcds and see what it says... Probably shouldn't of cleared the codes though!

I've had trouble free driving since clearing the fault codes 5 months ago but on the way home from work they appeared again...

A short loud screech noise (similar sounding to air being released?) was followed by a flashing check engine light and no gear engagement.

Can anybody please help me decipher the fault codes below ?
