First up the TDI. Notice the common stock inlet just in front of the filter housing ( bucket trial in second pic ). Yellow line is the end of the inlet, start of turbo.

Next the TSI shot from above, seems the TSI has no MAF, thus restrictive grid? Stock airbox is the same as the TDI in that is has a nasty 90 degree bend out of the lid. Yellow line is where the pipe down to the supercharger starts, and thus a inlet would end for the average joe. Note same headlight inlet position and piece. The stock TSI "box" is identical to the stock TDI, differs in the inlet from the headlight to the "box" only.

Finally the mighty GTI. Same deal, but with much more linear, and performance orientated filter further along the inlet before the bend I believe. Turbo inlet is pretty much below yellow dot. Wonder if they still have the restrictive grid.

Boy busy at work today : )

As you can see from these various GTI aftermarket intakes, all that would be requited for a TSI, or even a TDI is a shortening and adaptor of the pipe post filter.

          Love ya work Greg
Something that would need to be checked though is that the OEM pipe diameters for the 3 systems are the same. I'd hate to go down the road of ordering something that doesn't fit.

Just had a look at mine, anyone know what the circled hose leading into the inlet pipe is for? I note that the GTI induction pipes don't have this fitting and it appears that the TSI CAI above doesn't utilise it either?

How much and what sort of noise are we talking here. Do we get a turbo whistle, loud wooshing, deep growl or all of the above.
The Diesel already has a nice growl to it when the foot is down but more wouldnt hurt my ears
Is it evident when just cruising along or only when the boot is into it.
Cant wait to get the details from you and get my modshack.

                ya big sook!

It's enough "air" suction noise that the "whistle" is drowned out, or perhaps there's that much more air entering that the whistle is gone. You can now hear the impeller, especially when driving into your garage with a bit of throttle, when it's quiet outside. You wouldn't even know when cruising, 60k, or on the highway, only evident when you put the boot in....perfect in my eyes. On the freeway i can't hear the inlet over my rather aero rola racks for instance. Certainly nothing raspy, intrusive or fast and furious, just sounds like the diesel is ready to eat any nearby birds etc when you're fair up it. Could actually be louder in my opinion, and I'm not one for attracting a lot of attention, from either the fast and furious crew, or the boys in blue. You can certainly use half throttle and no one would really be aware.

Be pretty simple to plumb into an aftermarket don't you reckon?

I'm not quite sure, but will go through my TSI service bulletin from Erwin that goes over the engine tonight. I did look for a MAF on the TSI when I did the inlet comparo, and it didn't list one, but I did notice the TSI has three seperate air temp / pressure pickup points to regulate the two compressors, so it could very well be a part of that. Hey, you can always just pull it off and see what happens....works for me!

I noticed on the FORGE website the other day that they are developing a CAI for the 1.4 TSI and sent an email. However the reply I received is less than promising (below):

                      Hi Paul

Thank you for your enquiry. Sorry, I have no knowledge of this development, nor did our development manager!?

                      Best Regards

Bizarre, and you sent them the link too?

I like the look of the intake hose on the forge one - with the R-line grills on there'll be plenty of cold air coming in through there.

I've been chatting to REVO UK today about their 1.4TSI gear.
                          Perth's nearest dealer is... Adelaide.

I did afterward, will see what they come back with. Hmm, I'll be interested to have a look at the Revo site too.
