Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk4 Bora V5 Cooling system T Piece

    Hi All.

Wondering if I can get some help identifying a part number or proper description for the T piece connector in the attached picture. I've been to the standard Repco/Autobarn stores, a European auto parts specialist store, a VW mechanical workshop, 4 different wreckers and the Volkswagen parts division in Perth and I get either 'We can't find that part', 'You will need to speak to the dealer' or 'You will need to buy the whole hose assembly and that will be approx $350 thanks' (which I'm pretty sure is the wrong assembly anyway judging by the diagram they showed me).

I have also included the page from the V5 AQN manual with the connector circled if that helps.

Any help would be great as this is my daily and need to get this back on the road as soon as possible.

    Cheers.

OK so I've managed to find a part that was 'good enough for the bush' to get me by (basically both ends are the same size as the left side end in the picture above, and managed to get creative with the old hose clip and some screw down hose clamps).

It looks like crap and not 100% sure that it won't start leaking coolant in the near future so any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers.

    Stu.

There is a similar setup but different on the VR6, not that it matters. My mate made me one out aluminium pipe for a few bucks.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it

Thank you both for your replies. I have PMed you Bug Racer. And yes, aluminium fittings would cause me a whole lot less headaches than the plastic/bakelite fittings that are on the car now.....
