Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Spark Plug Gap

Time to do my plugs on Stage 1 AGU 1.8T.
I have bought NKG V Power BKR7E (one step colder) but is 035" (0.9mm) gap ok.
Pretty sure I use these all the time, but I keep hearing about gapping to 0.28''?
    Cheers

Have heard 0.8 as well, just to add to the confusion.

1.1mm is the general standard for plug gaps, though.

For chipped cars the gap is .028" !!

Any gap above that will affect your cars performance.

If you have never gapped to 0.028" you are in for a real treat.

So if I never changed or adjusted my spark plugs when Gav tuned the mk4 ecu then I should do it?

I'd pull them out and check them Clif. The BKR7E only cost about a fiver each if you decide to replace them.
