Hi, I would appreciate some help with information about the MFD of Mk4 GTI as it has gone red for some reason. I don't know anything about this area except I have cleared Service Now but that is all.
Kind regards
Woodgrub
is it red all the time?
often when the dash/interior gets hot they can loose pixels so it becomes no longer readable?
on the end of the stalk is an up and down button, does toggling that help?
Hi Dylan, At first, a few months ago it would come and go, now it is red all the time.I will try toggling to see if that helps. I have been told by VW that it requires replacing. I was hoping I might be able to get that part but I have been told I have to replace the instrument cluster.
Thanks for your help,
Kind regards
Woodgrub
Hmmmm do a bit of Google searching. I'm sure Iv seen info on replacing just the screen and also ways to repair/clean it in some cases.
Then again, a second hand cluster could be a cheaper quicker alternative
The top of mine will randomly go really dull so that it is almost unreadable. And the bottom will still be bright.
I assume there is a bad solder joint somewhere?
I had to get the instrument cluster on the beetle repaired recently. Took it to this guy Attila Instruments Calibration and Instrument Repair Service Home Page who was good. My problem was with the stepper motors, the beetle doesn't have an MFD, so it's not the same problem but it might be worth giving Attila a ring to see if he can help. He seemed to have a bit of everything in his workshop!
More details please !
Both my Mk5s have this issue, some days its crap then others it is fine.
I did a google search and there was a local ad on Gumtree about "european LCD display repairs" - best bet is to just search there as I've lost the guys business card and he was a Sydney local.
Hi Greg, I have contacted Attila, He has said he would need to have a look at the cluster before he can say whether it is repairable or not.
Thanks for the information. I will let you know what the outcome is.
Kind regards
Jon
