  • traction control light wont turn off

Just to clarify, i drive an 8L S3 so maybe you mk4 gurus could shed some light on my issue...

the other night I was driving the car home and about halfway into the trip the traction control light decided to turn on; I did not manually press the ESP button at all. Now every time I drive the car, the TC light comes on as soon as I start the car without me pressing the ESP button.

I changed the MAF sensor with a brand new one (as thats what other forums have said to do) and that did not fix my problem. I don't have direct access to a VCDS but could it be that my haldex has finally let go?

I plan on getting it scanned asap but yeah, just trying to figure out possibilities.

    Cheers

Maf has nothing to with the esp.

Maybe you have a bad wheel speed/ABS sensor, or the sensor disc has gunked up.
I had a loose speed sensor once and it made abs kick in all the time, no traction control on that car however.

true true, I'll give them a clean and see if that changes anything.
ABS light isn't on so I think it could do with a scan.

Best find someone with VCDS next and see what the cars says is wrong. ESP and TCS won't work if the ECU can't see what is happening with the engine, ie what the airflow through it is.

Other failures can cause the same lights to come on though, ABS failures, no wheel speed at one corner or the YAW sensor.

Cheers Gavin. Yeah a scan is what I'm going to get done - no more guess work and it'll give a straight answer. Thanks for the input fellas

ok, so I managed to get the car scanned over the weekend and I was greeted by the lovely "no fault codes found"...

im stumped lol. I had my CV's replaced just the other week, before the TC light came on, so my guess is either a wheel speed sensor or something ABS related.

If there's a light on, there must be a fault. Did you scan all the controller, or just the engine ECU?

Thats why I'm stumped, because I know there has to be something wrong...

Tbh, I'm pretty sure it was just the ECU that was scanned
