gti engine light

Stupid question, does the gti 1.8t have a check engine light?
I can't see it light up when i first turn the key on, does it exist or do i have a blown bulb?
I have seen warning messages for the alternator and cooling system come through the lcd display - is this used in place of a check engine light?
I try disconnecting the maf and nothing came up on the dash...?

It does have a check engine light but I've never seen it light up, even when I spun a big end. Unplugging the maf will put you into limp mode (5psi) but won't turn the cel on. Maybe I have a blown bulb too??

never seen it both on my 1.6 and GTI. not even mad though
