Id rather do without it if possible.

It helps, but you can get away with it if you've got a lot of patience, and a variety of long pliers and small hands.

Ive done abit of reading up on it and Im confused about the tabs do they click in so you have to compress them to pull the cable out?

What cable, the plug lead/coil lead? Should just pull out, they will be firm.

You don't need the plug socket unless the plugs are heavily recessed, and if they are you can use a telescopic magnet toll to pull it out (you should have one if you're working on you car, but then again you should also have a plug socket)

I think the special tool hooks under the connector so you don't pull on the plug lead & wreck things.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

You need the tool so you don't pull on the ht leads and ruin them. Leads are a couple of hundred a set. The special tool is $12 on eBay. Surely a no brainer?

Is this to remove the plugs on a 1.6? If so, what is this special tool you talk of, and who on ebay is selling it for 12 dorrahs

I agree with Golf Loom, plus I like his A-Team van. Don't be like B.A. Baracus when working on the dub!

It's a bit tricky and I never would have considered extra tools, but if you don't have a decent set of pliers then maybe this tool is good.
