Should I just leave it on with the new oil? Just for a few weeks until my next service?
From that pic you have it on the wrong way as if you pull on that it will tighten it wont it. Turn it over and try it

If you are having this much trouble, then it points to being hugely overtightened.

To fit the filter, you need to wipe the seat where it screws on to to make sure there is no dirt.

With your finger, apply a "smear" of oil to the rubber sealing gasket on the filter.

Screw it on hand tight. Do NOT use any tools/levers/etc. otherwise you end up like this.

You should only need to apply a very small force with a strap wrench to unscrew the filter.

Give it a jerk to crack it off or pull harder

Also try using a razor blade to loosen up the seal/gasket, then try and take it off again with the strapamajig.

Also don't use the screwdriver method unless you're 100% committed to getting it off yourself (or wanna pay more for a mobile mechanic).

Come in from underneath. Take off the under tray. Use big mofo multigrips (like they open to 125mm parallel). I haven't used an oil filter wrench in years since I bought the big mofo multis.

Your wasting your time trying to do keyhole surgery from the top.

                      Help on removing oil filter

Cars already up. I'm out at the shops ATM so I might as well buy a pair of multigrips. What size would be optimum?
