I’m intrigued how do you get underneath her to perform these deeds?

I’ve yet to find a set of ramps I can drive the Bora onto and she’s completely stock.

Except for the rubber missing off the Michelin’s

Don't need to really get underneath the car. There used to be 3 or 4 torx screws that you had to undo on the splash guard (now only one due to the skid plate install). As long as you have a short enough torx driver it's no issue to reach under whilst lying on the ground to get to them (who doesn't love cold concrete).

As for the screws in in the wheel arches. Just turn your wheels to full lock each way and once again with a short torx driver you will have no issues getting them undone.

      Cheers,
      Trent

      • So the other day and again yesterday I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden I got a real nasty vibration/wobble coming through the steering wheel at a certain speed.
Doing some research on Vortex I discovered that it could be any of the following:
        • Wheels not balanced
        • Wheel bearings
        • Swaybars/subframe/suspension components loose
        • Buckled/bent rim

I had a good look this evening at the front wheels where it seems to be coming from and low and behold the weights on the wheels that are used to balance them have gone bye byes.

I think this probably happened a few weeks ago when I literally dropped from a surfaced patch of road to graded patch that was in the process of being resurfaced. Made an almighty crash and I thought I came out of it unscathed. Turns out not but if it is just the balancing then I got off lightly. Thank goodness for the skid plate too.

        Cheers,
        Trent

        • Well what can I say what a difference a wheel balance makes. The at speed vibration is gone and some low speed vibrations which I thought were just from the new mounts have also all but disappeared. Very happy with the results.

Three of my wheels were out with my front left having no weight at all and being the primary candidate for the really bad vibration.

Shows that even though you get it done when you get new tyres put on you should still do it again as a maintenance measure.

Oh and I treated myself to some nitrogen as well. Will see how that goes. The guy at Jaxx reckons my pressures should hold anywhere from 3-6 months.

          Cheers,
          Trent

Nah I just need to give them a good polish. It's quite hard to get in there to keep them clean so I just used a microfibre cloth today.
So hard to keep you lot pleased.

I use the mothers power ball and some 3M fine liquid polish and a mircofiber to do the outsides. It works great. And if there stained up use some cut and polish and then wax the tips baby

I did that a few years ago, best thing I ever did.

For some reason my current Bora would not hold pressure and wore tyres unevenly very badly, (think the previous owner did more than a little curbing), but since switching to nitro, it holds pressure for six months and no crazy wear.

                      I'd recomend it to anyone.

Yep for sure, Bob Janes have a maintenance program with discounted wheel alignments etc every 10,000km after you buy new tyres/wheels from them.

Good work on the zorst too mate!!

                          • So without starting any of the usual dyno debate rubbish. Here are my results from DAS RESTO HAUS PRESENTS DYNO MANIA 2009.
First and third run were done in fifth gear and the second was done in fourth. The run was done in front wheel drive mode by pulling the Haldex fuse. The dyno was also not in Shootout mode for anyone that likes to know that kind of stuff.
                            Videos to come later...
