Look good m8, I have exactly the same stats on my wheels,
I was planning to use some spacers, have you used How does the outer rim sit in relation to the arch (how many mm inside the arch ?)
also what size of tyre did you end up with? i have noticed that it is difficult to get the stretched look on a 7.5j rim so i was considering these: 195/45/r17 ....
because the way a mk4 is setup the front wheels 'suck' in when lowering past a certain point.
as the angle of the control arms gets steeper as the car gets lower the track of the front wheels begins to narrow.
while the strut does move in at the bottom also, the top is fixed so about mid way on the strut (wheel the wheel and tyre is closest) will only move in about half what the base of the strut does.
There is a few diagrams on the net to show this, I will try to find one.
still don't get it..
the strut is connected to the carrier which holds the hub and the wheel attaches to the hub.
How can the hub angle to the strut change making the wheel hit the strut?
Yep same for me ..... I've put two sets of coil overs and a set of struts with two different makes of lowered coils into the Bora..... The relationship of the wheel to the strut has never changed no matter what height I've had the spring platforms .... The hub and strut are bolted together and the only possible way to have movement between the wheel once bolted to the hub and disc assembly is play in the wheel bearings ....
so in my experience once you have a wheel that clears the strut .... It will always clear unless the wheel bearings are stuffed !!!
obviously if you wind the bottom Spring platform down to where it hits the tyre you have issues ....
Hay Dylan8, what are the possibilities of running staggered fitment on the Bora, size would be.
front- 235 40 18 (et30)
rear- 265 35 18 (et35)
the rolling diameter are -0.4% difference so its next to nothing. concern is width of tires and offset.
fuzion ran a 235 and 265 combo back in the day on his FWD
trickysimon ran 235/40/18 on 8.5et35, and 265/35/18 on 9.5et40. were slicks from memory too so even wider then street tyres in those sizes
they are pretty agressive sized tyres though, any reason cant go smaller?
Can anyone tell me if a set of 17x7 et46 Denver rims off a Polo GTI will clear R32 front brakes fitted on a MkIV Golf GTI? If not, are there any recommendations for OEM Golf/Polo rims that will?
Cheers,
Mick
