At every 100,000 km you should do timing belt anyway and IMO if your paying a little extra for a plastic pump it's no real big loss. The savings from a metal impeller are minor.

The probelm with the plastic impellor is that they have reported failure rates at less than 100,000 km's. A good metal (brass) impellor will last the 100,000 kms so that you can be guaranteed that you don't need to do the waterpump early.

Totally agree with that point!!! if you fit metal impeller it should also be replaced when timing belt is due IMO. Timing belts and water pumps should be done at same time.

I like to do the belts and pump at the same time its all ready to go and only cost 620 which im very happy with and that's with the belt pump and tensioner.

If i keep it for a while ill do the pump at 80000kms

Just noticed that little black box in front of the coolant bottle is making a crazy ticking sound when cooling down the engine it sounds like a valve open and closing.

First of what is this box and does it normally tick from the valve that sits on top with a plug in it and a coolant hose?

just realised it's in the position of 14 in this picture not sure if the fuel pump is in the same position on all cars as this engine is a TDI

now i would think the fuel pump would be in here aswell which i think would be making that clicking noise.

anyone had to replace thiers before and could it make the noise im hearing

It's just a purge control solenoid. It's for emissions. It's normal to tick after the car has been running for a while.

                I don't suppose you have a link? I can't find it.

Also, what other parts are needed? IE: Do I need to buy seals etc sepatately? Or do they come with the water pump??

Thanks in advance. Also, mine is a 1.6L AKL engine, and I'm having trouble finding any info, even a decent Bentley/Haynes manual!
