The car (well 1.8T engine) is really meant to run with a plumb back Diverter Valve only. I have run my Polo GTI with a BOV, and had the car go into limp mode within 500m. After putting it back to a DV, and resetting the ECU, the car ran fine again.
Just run a little experiment and put the stock DV back on, reset the ECU, and see what happens.

the problem with that is that i dont have a working stock diverter and im not paying $180 for one from vw or $50+ on ebay just to have it fall apart again. i will look into getting the plumback kit for the ssqv but until i can get a confirmed diagnosis that the car can possibly work without spending $500+ on manufacturing errors im not going to spend any more money.
