I use Fuchs Super GTO 10W30 MC in all of the late model Golfs here. It matches the VW oil codes and none of my customers have any problems with oil usage. I am currently servicing around 35 TDi Golfs and Polos, and approximately 12 GTIs
This is NOT the longlife stuff!

You don't need 0w-xx, that is for countries with sub-zero temperatures... 5w or even 10w is OK for Australia. That money can be saved and spent on something else like beer

Are you using the same oil you sell to your customers?

Just fill it up until it overflows, it'll be right!

                      Andrew,

I assume you wouldn't be using this on an R32 given the high oil temps they achieve?

I picked up a 20 Litre drum of this from the Castrol distributor. It was $170 for the drum ($8.50 per litre).

I am using this Fuchs oil in my Mk3 VR6:

Convieniently the VR6 takes 5L of oil, so you buy one, drain the old oil, replace the filter and washer, tip the whole bottle in, then pour the used oil into the new container for disposal, nice and simple

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I used fuch's 10w-40 in my 2l mk4 as well... felt so much smoother after the change. Might try shell helix ultra but - fully synthetic and seemingly highly recommended.
