I think the problem with most AWD's is getting the launch right!
Good luck Rob, I hope you have a Go-Pro!
This. The advantage of launch control is the ability to launch without bogging down. Throttle is wide open. Turbo cars gain the advantage of building boost before they launch.
Not sure whether C2 have launch control or not. Might only be a United Motorsport feature. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is the tricky bit! At the hill climb I found a relatively quick clutch release at 4k rpm worked well, generally got all 4 spinning without shocking the drivetrain too much. I'll probably do the same, I was planning on launching gently on sat... but heck may as well give it the beans!
I think you might find that the surfaces will be slightly different Rob. Not from personal experience, but a friend of mine went drag racing, and 'on the street', at auto crosses etc, he'd launch at 4K, at the strip he had to launch much higher, due to the extra traction of all the rubber and composition of the strip.
Might be best to have a quick chat to some other AWD cars that are there in the night, suss what they're doing, if they noticed a difference etc.
Well I didn't break anything! Only got to have 3 runs as the meet was jam packed with cars which was somewhat frustrating.
The first run was a reasonable launch, ended up spinning all 4 but I backed off at the 1000ft mark (mistook it for the 1320 ft mark ) oops = 60ft 1.9 | 1/4 13.68 @ 100.93
The second run I bogged down the launch = 60ft 2.07 | 1/4 13.36 @ 106.93
The last run I also bogged down the launch = 60ft 2.01 | 1/4 13.33 @ 105.31
I would've liked to run faster but being first time at the drags really didn't know what I was doing! My 60ft times show this with them being on 2 seconds where my first launch was a 1.9 which felt better. Also I didn't play with tyre pressure or anything which apparently I should've dropped as i was running 38psi although given I was bogging down it probably wouldn't have helped.
The biggest killer I found though was the short ratio's of the 6spd. I was changing into 5th by the 1000ft mark whereas my mate in his R32GTR was only just topping out 3rd by just after the 1320ft mark. I tried on the 3rd run holding 4th gear on the limiter as long as i could bear but ended up changing into 5th as i couldn't bare not accelerating any longer thus the slower MPH.
This was apparently quite evident from outside the car as each gear change lost me a good deal of time so having to make 4 changes vs 2 was a time killer. Also I never dropped the clutch, mechanical sympathy and all but I reckon I could make a better 60ft time if I was more aggressive.
Part of me is tempted to hunt down a TDI final drive to lengthen its legs, but that wreaks of effort! Maybe next time i'll just launch harder! Also I'm keen to try and fix my boost issue to try and get the car to hold more boost & also i've found my exhaust manifold is leaking at the wastegate which is something I should also attend too!
Anyway video to come and was a fun night regardless! I was hoping to dip into the 12's, maybe next time!
So I've since discovered C2 now has launch control they can add to their tunes... Communication is underway to look at getting this added! Depends on cost I guess!
So long time no update, probably because the car's got about an inch of dust on it at the moment! No other reason than I haven't had time or money to do a few things I've wanted to on it.
Anyway started pulling a few things off to check / fix the exhaust leak I thought I had and in doing so I've discovered a few things.
First was a pretty bad exhaust leak due to two cracks in the dump pipe. Looks like the bend in the dump pipe was under too much load thus it cracked at the weld. I'll beef it up with some re-inforcing so hopefully wont happen again.
Second, and this is the big one, is the silicone coupler from the turbo to the first interocoler hard pipe had a hole/split in it big enough for me to put 3 fingers through. Looks like its heat related and it's been split for quite a while too. Explains why It's felt down on power for a while and why it wouldn't make boost properly - Massive boost leak. Actually TBH given the size of the leak i'm surprised it hasn't been running like more of a pig given how rich it'd have been running.
A potential knock on effect of it running rich is the cat converter has started to degrade, looking down the exhaust I can see some of the cat has begun to collapse no doubt causing a nasty restriction in the exhaust.
All in all a few interesting discoveries, all relatively easily fixed and prevented from happening again. A touch of welding and some heat shielding should have all going well again Hopefully I'll also recover some of the horses that feel like they've escaped from under the bonnet!
Well holy batman. Fixed the exhaust leaks and more importantly the sizeable boost leak and the car has turned into a monster again. The difference in power and boost delivery is really quite staggering. To think I was considering fixing it and then selling it and moving on...The VR6 addiction has returned with a fiery vengeance!
Still a few things to fix, need to do something about the cat and also need to plumb in a diverter valve as although I thoroughly enjoy the massive amount of flutter I now get, the disruption to the airflow seems to be causing a clutch in stall issue if I boost hard then back off and clutch in, something that didn't happen with the boost leak (I guess acting as an ever present bov)
Sorry i've been out of touch from the forms for so long, and sorry to those that have PM'd me questions whom I haven't replied to. Unfortunately life's been busy lately thus my time on forums has been rather limited.
