golf housos vr6 is the same, he replaced all his strut mounts, im pretty sure its normal, when the cars jacked up the gap disapears, when its on the ground gap is back.

That Mount is Well Wickedly ****ed..
Replace em every 6 months.. it retains cabin comfort and makes it handle a little better
The MKIIIs always have the bigger gap
you could always get KMAC Mounts and eliminate that bushing all to gether and get much more alignment settings

my strut tops have a gap from tower. but the odd thing is that the Konis didnt have a gap.
