    • Changed Haldex filter and oil with Manaz, and then changed the engine oil in mine.
      (Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30 FWIW)

Also discovered Shell Helix Ultra VX 5W-30 which is 504/507 compliant. Anyone got any exp with it?
Might check it out in the Lube section (thats what she said )

        • took out old pod filter was way to dirty, put in a 3A Racing pod filter (highest flowing pod) in ran it next to the battery so heat dont get to it, also ran a plastic pipe from the front bar to it, soon will enclose it fully because of the laws were i live NSW.

Please tell me you're joking, I put one of those $20 autobahn filters on my mk1 12 years ago and thought I was the shizz.

im all for air filters, they dont really make any difference except for sound- the cda in my .:R makes it sound like darth vader!
mine has a pipe that runs down to the passenger side intake to at least pretend the temp is kept down

                • lol ye its tru, my golf is 1.6L it doesnt matter for the power car is slow anyway. but i had the stock airbox in with sotck panal filter and a pipe running from stock box down to front grill, everythings air tight and getting cold air but doesnt make difference.

                  • the biggest factor in making it work on a na car is a pressure difference across the filter. ie: the motor side has a lower pressure than the other side, this will let the air 'flow' through the filter.

                    • Pressure difference is caused by flow resistance. Unfortunately, the lower the flow resistance, the less effective the filter is at filtering, so again, everything's a compromise.

Smoothing and straightening the path the air has to take leads to better airflow, as does removing other restrictions - the Mk4 DSG R32 airbox and intake I installed onto my car made a substantial difference to flow readings from my MAF, without changing the filter at all.

It looks completely OEM - just that it has larger diameter openings and slightly less convoluted design on the intake track. I have an EVO motorsport CAI which pipes the MAF to a Filter located in the bumper just in front of the wheel arch. I dont have the figures with me, but we scanned before and after logs using VAGCOM and Rob was getting very similar gains in Airflow to my CAI , both were greater than the OEM readings.

Whats the net result.. I think the DSG airbox kit was a bit more expensive than the CAI I bought, and is a bit more fiddly to install, but if you don't want the authorities hassling you, and you are not after increased induction roar, then the OEM look is the way to go.

I'm still convinced (and I think i convinced Manaz) that the Modshack VTDA has h0rn induction noise ftw.

Yep, the Modshack does sound (in a good way) like it'll eat small children. I've got some MAF readings for both the DSG airbox and a pod filter, the readings end up pretty similar, but the pod (or Modshack) is a lot noisier.

                              • Would be interesting to see the MAF readings on the Modshack - after a good cleaning that is.

The pod filter inside the Modshack was dirtier than my ex-gf
