    • Went to install the Powerflex top strut mounts bushes I purchased from a forum member.

Discovered a single front passenger wheel nut was ratcheted on far too tight (not my handiwork.)

By 5.00pm rain was imminent, but I finally cracked the nut.

All day in the sun and the eventual purchase of a brand new rattle gun... and now its back to square one tomorrow morning

You couldn't undo it with a breaker bar?

          • I attempted a CV change on the weekend, all was well until I could not free the shaft from the hub. My large persuader did not help. I went and bought a hub puller and broke that, and returned it for a refund.
Then put it all back together, a waste of 3hrs.

Today it went into the shop to get done by a pro. They called to say that they are having a lot of trouble removing the shaft. Hub and axle to be removed and put in a press to separate. Wow all this to just change the a boot.

They did pass it for a RWC certificate without any issue however, so not long now and the for sale sign goes up.

            • One side of my old A3 was a bitch to push the cv out of the hub. Took a great deal of beating to do it. Even with a good warming up using a heat gun. It was tight.

I have a boot to do on our A4, not today though. Much too warm for those kinds of games.

                • had huge issues trying to take a shaft out at the wreckers. ended up ruining the thread even though I had a second nut on to take the force.

hopefully when I do my CV boots they arent that bad

Yeah nah unfortunately not, at least with my housemate's bar which doesn't seem very robust. Even with the rattle gun it took a couple of hours and a fair bit of lube.

Ended up taking an extra weekend to get the top mounts installed but what a difference they have made.. Feels much stiffer and handles better around corners. Tyres and an alignment this week and then on to some more maintenance.

A cheeky little tip: Deflate the tyre and call RACQ. I did this some many years ago when I had a stripped nut.

                      • both CVs replaced on the passenger side thanks for Dean at Volkwerke!
was meant to just be the outer but on removal found both inners were on the way too.

will get onto the drivers inner in the new years as it wasnt loosing any grease yet.

Slightly dodgy, but a good idea nonetheless

Looks super convenient Anthony - love those wheels!

Finally got some new tyres on the ABT rims I bought last year ... Had a hairy moment on Greenhill road when one wheel decided to become loose - of course I'd taken my tools out when I was cleaning the boot area to transport my old rims so had to leave Rolf down a side-street catch a train home, pick up my tools - you get the idea ... Brakes this weekend even if it is 42 degrees.
