$#@% ^^(*#*$&&* ($#^&#!!! ... I just wrote a massive reply to this and the site went down & I lost it!! Not Happy Jan!!

... ok.... the much shorter version..

    Basically, do this:
Get under the dash, find the CCM (Comfort/Convenienvce Control Module), here's the kicker..
Does it have 1 or 2 plugs connected to it??
2 Plugs: If it has 2 plugs, you're in luck, the car has the wires and most importantly, the CCM has the circuitry to let factory remotes operate the functions of the car. Take a photo of it, with the part number clearly visible, and order the corresponding remote keys.

1 Plug: If it has only 1 plug, you're unlucky, as the CCM does not have the circuitry for factory remotes. Full Stop.

All is not lost, you can buy a 2 plug CCM (and 2nd plug with wires) from a wreckers or UK ebay, and you can wire in the basics of the 2nd plug (power, antenna) yourself and you're ready to program the corresponding remotes!! There's a UK MKIVs thread on it, I've been looking into doing it again now I've finished moving house (again), sorry I don't have the links right away (I re-formatted the computer and lost all of my VW bookmarks). The main thing is that you HAVE TO get a corresponding CCM to the one your car is running right now.. So, if you take a pic of your CCM, you'll see the first 3 Alphanumeric digits are say: " 1J0 ... ..." or " 1C0 ... ...", then you have to get a 2 plug CCM with the corresponding "J" or "C".. I believe that this relates to the type of Immo2 or Immo3 in your car. That is the simple, yet ultra important main point..

I'll try to find the thread for you, and any questions, just ask!

    • OK, kdog, I found the Forum Thread for swapping CCMs!!! ..
Here's the direct link to the reply I got for my 1 plug CCM, but read the whole thing if you feel like getting a better understanding of it..

Again, happy to help out with any questions of the stuff I've posted above. kdog, I'm also happy to split any postage etc on parts we find for this CCM + remotes project. I'm also pretty confident with my wiring skills ((happy to do either of above jobs (central locking motors or CCM wiring) in swap for someone helping swap/fix my noisy starter motor!))

Is that the driver or passenger side.

When i changed my suspension on the weekend, I previously had seat cupra r strut mouts, and the passenger side was squashed about 0.8 of a cm compared to the other side. And i thought they were barely meant to compress at all!

I'm sticking with cheapy oem strut tops from now on.

I rebuilt mine (tear-down, clean and grease) and it's still quacking away ! Some people have had luck though.

Passenger - which should be the lighter side, especially since I've relocated the battery.

OEM tops are $99 from the dealer - I needed them urgently so I didn't bother ordering online etc. as one side started to make clunking noises over bumps.
The last OEM set I purchased (again locally but got trade price) lasted for around 25,000km's on coilovers which wasn't too bad - but I dislike seeing the uneven gap now with this set, generally means 1 side will be a tad lower and could have a tad more camber as the coilover is tilted towards the inner of the car (depends how worn the mount is).

Must have gone over a decent bump on the passenger side on the road trip to Wagga. But, not to stress as the Golf is coming off the road this weekend! Exciting times ahead.

          • You should buy the strut tops from ebay, will be much cheaper.

I had partial luck. I rebuilt mine with fresh grease.. instead of quacking every start, its 1 in 100. So good enough.

            I followed this thread.

                  • really appreciate it kenbot! Might pm you what I've done and where im stuck if thats alright.

Repaired both front door modules, passenger side i was able to solder up but drivers side i needed to swap and Now it has its own mind and chooses when to lock all doors or just to lock the single driver side via key......... Decided to give my handles a brush look while fixing module.

                    also considering coilovers
