Not yet, I've been trying not to bug him, but I'll give him a call today to see where it's at...

    • Hi Guys,

I Have been slack and havent posted in here yet.

To start off I purchased our MK4 1.8 GLE back in March this year. We were left with out a car so took what we could get at the time.

The car itself is in average condition, the paintwork is quite sad and needs attention soon. So far I have performed the following-

1.Timing Belt and Wate Pump Replacement (This was a huge job, eneded up doing it outside in the freezing melbourne weather and took around 10 hours)

2.Replace Split Coolant hose from reservoir to engine

3.New Rocker Cover Gasket (Major PITA)

      4.New Cabin Filter

5.New Spark Plugs, Oil Change, Oil Quick Release Valve from ECS, Fuel Filter

      6.Added remote central locking

7.New Headunit (I wanted to stay with an OEM look but have bluetooth etc so went with an "Automedia" DDin unit from repco. When they are on sale they are around $120 its not to shabby and isn't all flashy like other brands.

8.Added New shift boot and Dimpled Golf Ball Gear Knob from MK5 (this is a huge improvement and makes it much nice to drive)

9.Just this Past weekend i debadged the rear which definitely cleans it up.

      10. And Finally i picked up some 18x8 et45 Audi Reps they look great on the car and make it look much more modern (need to get some tyres for the rear 215 40 18 if anyone has any let me know)

Anyway hope you guys enjoy this post

      • good to see you on here Ben.
headunit looks very oem, unless you owned a mk4 you wouldnt know.

damn, I should have kept my 215/40s when I had the chance, everyone needs them now

        • I agree about the headunit ... looks like it was always there! My original unit died about 6month ago and I was looking at modern replacements with mp3 and bluetooth, but they were all multi-colored flashing lights etc; would have looked completely out of place. In the end I replaced with the exact same radio, bought 2nd hand on ebay. I'm bookmarking that Automedia one though for a possible future upgrade. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys. The automedia one comes on sale at repco about once every 2 months just keep your eyes out for the brochures. I was saying to my brother just the other day i dont know why one of the major audio players havent made an oem style unit with different colour faceplates and rgb leds to match your other interior lights.

As far as the install goes, i had to remove the whole plastic cage and use a few bits and bobs to get it to fit though you could probably buy a double din kit off ebay uk to make it easier.

One other thing that I have done is a coolant flush. I did my homework in regards to coolant and using OEM G12+. Just so you all know Nulon's red coolant is now G12+ Compatible and available from most auto stores.

                        • Get some 20mm spacers instead. Et45 would be getting close to running the inside/suspension components.
Fatten that mk4 up! (if that's what you're in to).
Platinum Grey mkV Jetta turbo, Viezu motorsport map, GT-CX 18", lowering to come

I would love for it be wider, but..... i dont like the idea that they are "illegal" when it comes to insurance. Its a sacrifice I have to make.

be aware then if you plan to lower you may run into problems with tyres hitting coilover collars and such.
                                looks good though dude

also, hit a rock about 90mm high today and the bastard clipped my subframe and has moved whats left of my undertray plastic shielding meaning its sagging and currently sits about 50mm from the ground... stupid rock should never have been in the middle of the road and there was debris either side so i couldn't even swerve to miss it..
