Got 2002 GTi with oetinger tune, bought it like that. Noticed on hard acceleration car stutters a bit, and psi on boost gauge moves from 15-20 psi. What could cause this? Specially in second and third gear
I would be looking at all the basics which could be causing these symptoms.
- Check your spark plugs (probably best to replace them if you don't know how old they are). Also check the spark plug gap is as per VW specs.
- Check your coil packs. Not sure what coil packs are worth for the 1.8T engine, but might be a good idea to replace them as they only last so long.
- Check all your rubber vacuum hoses for the turbo and boost control, as this car is 20+ years old now and those rubber hoses will be well and truly past their used by date. Any holes or cracks in those pipes can cause boost issues.
- Check all the rubber/silicone joiners for the intercooler pipes as these can sometimes come loose over time and cause boost leaks.
- Check and clean your MAF sensor. if it hasn't been cleaned in a long time then the dirt that accumulates on the wire can cause the engine to run poorly. There is a specific spray cleaner for MAF sensors.
