Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf MK 4 2003 1.9Tdi , Coolant expansion vessel water level sensor problem

    Hi
I have a Golf MK 4 2003 1.9Tdi , and the Coolant expansion vessel water level sensor keeps beeping out a warning when I start up in a morning ( Mainly a cold-ish morning ) saying on my dash "STOP" Water level check, but the level is ok, al that I can see in the expansion vessel is 2 metal rods going into the water, so I can't see what the problem is, done a diagnostic but nothing showing up.
When the engine warms up a bit, sometimes just after a couple of minutes, I can switch off the engine and restart and it is ok

    Cheers

It’s probably just a faulty level sensor (the 2 prong thingy you can see in the expansion tank). If you buy a new expansion tank it will come with a new level sensor fitted.

      Hi

Thanks for your reply, here is only 2 metal prongs in the bottle that connect to the plug , I didn't think they where the actual sensor, in th edrawing it shows ( sort of) feed from the bottle to the sensor, but know idea where the actual sensor is located , could it be withing the cars "ECU" .

      cheers
