  • My car is now going to be resprayed at a panel shop.

Long story short, I stopped the worry and stress of trying to get my friend to help me like he initially promised, and I picked up my unfinished car parts from his house today. I've spoken to a guy at Seven Hills who was really nice and confident that it would be a simple task to complete once the prepwork was done. The bill shouldn't go over $1000, and I can rest assured that the job will get done, and get done professionally.

Now that everything is down to me, I'm halfway through finishing the repairs I was relying on being finished, and then they will need hi-fill primer, which I don't have access to (that one is going to be a headscratcher!). Once that's done, wetsanding those panels is all that's needed to finish the preparation.

Provided I can work away at a good pace, things should wrap up completely around Tuesday or Wednesday evening. The Saturday of next week will hopefully be the day I can trailer the car to the shop, and it will get done then.

      • Things never go to plan man, at least you know it's getting done. You can buy filler primer from autobarn or something that'll be alright.

Yeah I had a bit too much hope this time around at least it gives me reason not to ever do that to my mates.

Yeah I'll probably go get some tomorrow morning. I'll need thinner as well to clean the gun afterwards...

I've got a gun, but no air compressor lol. I'll have to see who's got one nearby that might let me borrow it for an hour. Fingers crossed I finish the bonnet tomorrow and can then hi-fill and be DONE with the repairs.

You can buy it in a spray can man, if there only small parts to spray it'll be fine.

I've gotta spray the whole hatch, half the bonnet and the bottom strip of the door. And I need 2pac anyway which they don't sell in cans...

Dont stress. Sometimes you gotta make do. Get a compressor if you can BUT, If it's primer filler it doesn't need to be 2k, acrylic in a can is cool. You can paint top coat 2k over the top.

Is the shop just painting the top coat?

                  • It's not all bad... It's easier to go back to a Panelshop and get them to fix things than a mate...
Good luck with it all, be patient because at the end of the day when it's all done you will totally forget there were any dramas to begin with
I'm going to the pub... I may be some time...

Yeah I agree. Huge lack of motivation today though...

Haven't gone badly so far though!
                      -bumpers wetsanded
                      -hatch finished up
                      -bonnet nearly feeling flat....nearly...
-sprayed a guide coat on one door ready to wetsand

                      There isn't much left either..
-quick wetsand of all the door frames
-hi-fill half bonnet, half door, hatch, top of rear bumper
-wetsand half bonnet, two doors, hatch, top of rear bumper

Wont take you long to finish, you're just at the "I hate you car" stage... It passes.
Keep it up! It'll be finished before you know it!

Hahah that's so true. Lack of motivation and ''f*** you car, you POS'' is exactly where I am. I decided today that I'm going to have one door and the inside door/boot frames all wetsanded today, and that's it. Hopefully tomorrow morning I can go buy some paint and steal a compressor for an hour and get the rest of the shizz i need painted up so i can FINISH ...

Oh I don't mean mad enough to actually be physically angry whilst working hahaha. It's a labour of love after all

Only got one door frame sanded tonight, the stupid door that I had to sand down was sprayed with hi-fill that had HARDENER in it, thanks anthony you idiot. I'm off tomorrow though so I think the plan of action is to go to VG's in the morning and grab some paint, get a compressor and spray some shizz..
