Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk3 VR6 Abs removal

Hey guys, As the title says, has anyone done it?
i have just acquired a VR racecar and the abs has been removed due to being unpredictable.
It still retains the stock master and booster
i am fitting a manual bias valve and getting rid of the factory proportioning valve.
Do i need to swap the booster and master with a GL mk3 unit or can u run the existing master and booster?
Any one who has experince in this i would appreciate your input!!
    Cheers

If my memory serves me correctly, a Mk3 GL was fitted with ABS as standard (which my 96 Vento GL has), a Mk3 CL was not fitted with ABS (which my 97 CL does not have). Not sure how the CL brake master and booster would go with trying to stop a VR6 (beyond my level of amateurish tinkering).

I've ran all the abs pump/lines with ecu and sensors removed. Was fine.

Currently have a mk2 vr with no abs pump etc, but vr prop valve in back.

Got the VR beam and prop valve in the back, no pump etc.
cant recall what booster I ran, seems ok, but not great. think thats more to do with brakes needing a bleed, new pads in the rear, and mismatch front pads and rotors
