I'm just interested in this particular function here

If i'm not wrong when the switch is pulled out and that light is on the rear fogs should light up? I'm guessing that means the driver side taillight shines a lot brighter than usual. When I pull that switch out and that little light comes on nothing happens at the back. No fog light. Does that mean somethings wrong or did australian cars not come with rear fogs, just like they dont have front fogs usually? If this is the case its weird theyd put a switch with that function

Yeah I wouldnt usually expect youd need it in australia but a few weeks back in melbourne we had some crazy foggy days. One night was driving and could not see more than 40-50 metres in front.... scary

I haven't yet pulled that part apart in my car, but I believe it is a seperate light in the rear, but only on one side.
From what I understand it's relatively simple to add the second light on the rear to even up the look of these things.

The two stage switch is designed to turn on the read and front fogs independantly, but since Australia didn't get front fogs we only have the single stage. Me, like many others, have hooked the front fogs up to that switch anyway so they all turn on at once.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Check the tails to see if the bulb still works. They were wired in from factory, and yes only for one side. The other side is blanked off, but you can easily drill a hole through the blank to fit another bulb in so that both sides light up, as Aaron was saying.

They use the same bulbs as the brake light. I usually use them as a "get off my ass" signal to tailgaters

Prob ur bulb is blown at the back, all mk3 have rear foglights. With front foglights, all adm cars have the front foglight wiring up to the harness that sits behind the radiator support and u can just wire in fogs from there provided u use a two-step headlight switch that pulls out twice.

i hooked it up for my front fogs the outputs for the switch that pulls out have no wires connecting to it so i used a multimeter to find the right ones i just had to run the wires

we only got the rear fog light switches i believe. overseas they have the ones that when you pull them, they click once to make the front fogs come on (which as we know we didnt get) and a second time (still pulling back on the switch) to make the rear fog light go on. just like the newest golfs/jettas/passats with fog lights.

so basically we got the one stage foglight switches, overseas got the dual stage switches. i do believe you can buy them online somewhere. can remember where though.

wouldnt be a bad idea if you dont like the idea of wiring your aftermarket front fogs to work off your parkers or headlights, and would rather use the overseas switch to do it properly.

Give me a sec and ill take a pic of mine

Bought it from ebay.co.uk they pop up from time to time. Dont buy any US versions coz their switch is on the opposite site and wont fit our dashes.

I cannot find wiring harness for front fog light around radiator support. Any idea where? Which colour? I just know they are 2 pins.

I just checked definitely no rear fog coming on I guess ill have to take the tail out and have a look inside to see whats up.

On the subject of front fogs, why didnt australian models get them? seems kinda a waste to do the wiring for them at the factory and then just put in dummy reflectors where they were supposed to be....

It was an option, and judging by the low number of them around, they were probably quite expensive.
