Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • brake lights wont turn off

    hey guys

the brake lights on the vento stays on when i turn the car off. Even when the car is on and I'm driving as per normal, from the outside it'd seem as if I'm braking. The brake lights seem to stay on even when I turn off the car.

For now I've disconnected the bulbs so that it wont drain the battery but any suggestions on how to fix this and what the cause of this may be??

You're right. It was the brake light switch. I had a look and it was just dangling. The switch itself is fine. I tested it and it still works when I pressed down, it turned off. I think it just got loose somehow

Any idea on how to re-attach it to the brake?

You push it back into the pedal bracket, and turn it to lock it in. Although, if its fallen out, the little tabs have probably broken off.

would you be able to take a photo of where the brake switch is meant to hook up to? I seem to have two holes on the pedal itself so unsure which one it's mean to go in to?

Also, it seems like the switch works in the way that when you press on the switch, the brake lights go off and when the switch is not pressed, the brake lights stay on, which then tells me that the default setting when attached to the brake pedal must be that it's pushing something against it in order for the brake lights to stay off? On either hole, I cant seem to get the switch anywhere near the pedal which will allow it to stay pressed, thus keeping the brake light off? Any ideas?
