So the update is I'm back from holidays and the engine is getting forged internals. So it'll be out sometime this month and off to the machine shop to get a hone and clean ready for reassembly.

Probably won't be ready by GAD but by Christmas is the new goal now I guess!

                    Hey guys!

Sorry for the delay I've been off the forums a while and only checked up on it recently.

So far I've built the short block (after a hot dip and bore/hone/deck) with Wiseco 82mm pistons, Eagle H Beam rods, all new Glyco bearings and full ARP hardware.

Should have the engine back in the car in a few weeks as I've got everything I need to finish it off.

And thanks Stathi! The MK1 might get some twin Webers soon but I'll finish the VR6T first!

                      • Thanks Josh!

Lower timing chains are on now and I've put a new metal head gasket and torqued down the head to spec. Not long now I just need to set the timing, bolt on accessories and cover plates and it'll be time to put her back in.

                        Cheers,

                        Tim

                        • Noice. Did the gasket going prompt the angry rebuild?

                            • Thanks guys!

The gasket wasn't the cause it was one of the pistons cracking, I guess cast pistons and rods can only take a certain amount of load!

Got the crank pulley and upper timing chains on today as well as setting the timing. I just need to put on the timing chain covers, rocker cover and sump once I give them a clean then I can start bolting accessories and turbo back on.

                              Cheers,

                              Tim

                              • Got the timing chain covers, oil sump and the rocker cover bolted on today:

And my trusty reinforced sump I made before for when it may scrub:

I also painted the turbo manifold in high temp black to stop it rusting and bolted it on plus connected up the oil return line:

Next step is accessories and flywheel/clutch.

I also bought some braided wiring wrap for the engine bay wiring I'll be installing before the engine goes back in to neaten it up.

                                Cheers,

                                Tim
