  • custom intake?

so ive been thinking and i want to do something different, i want to put a subaru liberty scoop on my vr, i will be doing in anyway, but i was thinking if i could do some kind of performance gain or something.

i was thinking since the intake manifold opening is at back of the bay, behind the scoop that i could try and making something with a built in air filter that would fit there. to get some fresher air.

plus if it was raining i wouldn't want heaps of water to be going straight into my intake.

...uh you do realise that the air that feeds into that scoop is cool air that runs across a top mount inter-cooler? No air going into that makes its way into the engine.
Otherwise there would be the water problem as you mentioned.
The air (sometimes some water) passes through that top mount inter-cooler and exits away down to the underside of the car, any water that comes in cleanly goes through without making its way around the engine bay...because that would be bad.

You're going to have a tough time trying to fit a top mount inter-cooler where the intake is.

Not worth all the hassle IMO.

Personally I think you could use that money for something better than trying to imitate a Hyundai Excel with a rexy bonnet scoop...but each to their own.

I reckon this is doable, there is a lot of space where the exhaust downpipes are where you could direct the exhaust of the inter-cooler as it comes in through the scoop.
Not sure how you can solve the water issue if you are going to have the intake directly feeding from the scoop.
                  Best of luck though.

I figured but from the photos of them installed ontop I couldn't see why they were being used, must had hid the turbo somewhere out of sight.

Anyway...came across this photo while googling, lol...but looks like your idea of having the intake take air from that area, right?
