Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

So not much has been happening lately. Went to get regassed and compressor wouldnt hold pressure, going to risk getting one from a wrecker. Read online its a common problem and was told today if the aircon doesnt get used for a while they do fail, anyone know which is true?

If my memory serves me correctly, the refrigerant gas acts as a lubricant on the seals and the working parts of the compressor. If you do not use the aircon for an extended period, the seals can dry out and fail and you will lose your gas and the compressor will become unserviceable. I was always told to run an aircon unit once a week for 15 mins to give it a good lubrication (this applies to your home reverse cycle split system aircon too).

Hey guys not much has been happening with the vento atm. Aircons fixed and been driving everyday fine, but now theres a problem! The mrs rings me up on the way to work saying the cars cutting out on her whilst driving. Alot of shuddering whilst driving especially at low revs and sounds like the time my icm died on my mk4 but not sure if this could be it. Previous owner did mention about the ignition switch needed to be replaced he was told by a mechanic does this sound about right? Need some advice as I need it running good soon.
