  • Mk3 obd1 vr swap 4D>2D engine service items

Hey guys. I will be attempting a swap when I get back from Europe but while I'm here I thought I better get whatever I might need.

So what I want to know is, what are the items that are a "must" if not "recommended" to be replaced when one has the engine out already eg: brittle plastic coolant stuff, minor gaskets ect

If this seems like a stupid question, let me know and I'll remove all traces of this thread

Yeah, pull the gearbox off, and do chains, guides and gears.

Put 262 cams in. They are cheap and worthwhile.

        Crack pipe, thermo/stat housing

            Thanks for the feedback.

Re the chains: the chains aren't noesy as I made sure to inspect them before I bought the car.

While the engine is out I'll split the gearbox and do clutch ect, rear end seal???

Re the cams: how difficult is it to fit them?

Will definitely do crack pipe and heater core.

I recently just redid my chains as I had the gearbox off. The chain guides were broken in one spot and heavily worn in others, but they weren't making any noises.

Unless you know they were done recently it would be a healthy thing to do.

Cams are an extra 16 nuts, super easy. Hardest part is getting the chain sprockets off them.
