A remap, custom exhaust, CAI and adjustable fuel pressure regulator took my 1995 VR6 from 128kw to 149kw. Lovely sound and noticably more responsive.

Also, changing to thinner semi-synthetic oil at the time gained 1.5kw ..

Traded on a BMW 328i in 1998 and still regret that to this day......

Next up would have been a supercharger .....

BTW, on ebay in the USA there is a few turbo kits for sale .... USD 3K...

5K may be a bit rich. I certainly had a quote to buy one brand new from an australian supplier for 3.5k
As per the above link you can buy one brand new for around 2k plus freight plus import duty. so probly closer to 2.5 - 3k!

You can pick em up second hand for less than stupid money. But you have to be careful cos if any of the parts are damaged you have to mortgage your soul to replace them
