Thermo fans stopped working in my mk3 cabby today.
Could it be a fuse or the fan motor?
When I turn one fan by hand the other turns with it.
Not sure what I should test first.

Can anyone please please please help?
Think I have a blockage in the motor.
So far I've tested the fans with a jumper from the battery and both high and low speed work.
I've replaced the temp sensor in the radiator, replaced thermostat, replaced fan relay under the expansion tank, back flushed the radiator with a garden hose.
Have new coolant and no leaks.
Tonight I found the two small hoses that live under the throttle body were completely blocked.
Removed them, cleaned them out and refitted.
Also replaced the coolant temp sensor on the top radiator hose.
Still can't get the fans to kick in.
If the coolant galleries in the motor are blocked, how do I clean them out? Is radiator flush enough?
Top and botom radiator hoses run hot.
I'm totally mystified!
Hoping someone on here can point me in the right direction.
Thankyou!

FIXED IT!!!!!!!
When testing the fan switch I could only get 1 speed. Turn the ignition on and 2 speeds worked.
This meant that the problem was either fan switch or the switch was not submerged in coolant.
Pulled out the air release valve next to the coolant sensor and it emptied the expansion tank.
Topped it up and took her for a fang and she never went above 90 degrees.
Pulled into my driveway and popped the bonnet and soon enough the fans came on!
Job done. The problem all along was a blockage in the 2 small hoses that go to and from the throttle body and air stuck in the cooling system.
So happy it's sorted and can drive her again.

Anyone still on here?
I have a knock coming from my front left when I turn hard/sharp left or right in our cabby.
It generally happens every time I pull out of the drive way at low speed but may also occur at high speed.
Suspect steering related but guess it could be a CV, control arm bushes or sway bar.
Anyone got a method for diagnosing?
Cheers!

Still here. Could be any of those things above, sorry those areas of the car are not within my areas of experience. Vento has a knock when you turn steer wheel hard, I have a leak in the power steering rack (currently sourcing a replacement rack) and the sway bar mounts could do with a replacement. So you might want to check your power steering rack for leaks and your sway bar mounts.1997 Golf CL, 2011 Caddy Life TDI, 2007 Golf TDI, 1996 Vento GL (red), 2008 Skoda Octavia TDI

This was from Operation Rescue Beetle a few Fridays back with Waterboy and Dylan. Good times and the start of nice summer weather. The arvo was a success, fish and chips were consumed, and the Beetle made it back home safe and sound.Mk3.Mk4.Mk1
