Some guys on here were bidding on this on fleabay. Well I had the winning bid
I'm the proud owner of this wondrous piece of machinery.

I also bought a massive huntsman spider who decided to run across the bonnet in the m5 tunnel then run across my door as I got out when I got home. He met my thong soon after haha

Engine wise, the 1.8 is perfect! Runs better than my Vento. This is my first manual car, I've never even touched one prior to this. I think I'll pick it up quick, gonna drive around the streets here every afternoon til I'm confident enough for main roads lol.
I have no real idea how the clutch is supposed to feel. Basically I think it travels way too far and is very stiff. Could I need a new clutch cable?
There is some insane camber on the front right which I'll try and diagnose/fix later this week. Apparently it was caused by getting it towed about 6 months ago.

...biggest rust bubbles evar! I'll be getting these fixed for sure.

Sadly I will have to sell the Vento ...would love to keep them both!

Eventually my Borbet reps and Weitecs will go on the Golf and I'll sell the Vento stock standard.

Need advice regarding the clutch and the camber

Wow so you got it! I had been in contact with the owner, seemed like a really nice bloke. In the end I decided I couldn't be bothered with the rust and apparently been keyed etc. Glad someone on here has taken it on. Can't wait to see what you do with it! Sucks the vento has to go though.

      congrats on the purchase.

re; camber. starters take the wheel off, and look for anything that's bent, scratched or dinged up. Can't really see much in the pics though.

Clutch cable might need lubing. I've seen people use all sorts, WD, gearbox oil etc. as for travel, it's probably a self adjusting cable, so tht's just how it is. Although they do tend to stretch a bit over time.

      Iis this car an import?

I'm confused as to why the indicators are oval and it has flares? Obvious answer is that flares are added on but the front and rear bumpers are texture tops? Don't oval indicators mean colour coded bumpers?

          I love a 3 door good stuff.

I'd say get someone who knows what a clutch is supposed to feel like to give it a drive and see if they think something is up. When I bought mine (with 140kkm) my clutch was on the way out and I had to replace it not long after. It will likely have a self adjugsting cable unless its been changed which are useless, if its the problem, replace it with one you can adjust manually.

Would be cheaper to get a new hatch than fix that rust!

Pretty sure the rust is on a rear quarter panel.

He was a nice guy, and he was like 6'6! Even I was uncomfortable driving the CL with no seat height adjustment or steering wheel adjustment! Anyone ever fitter height adjustable seats or a height adjustable seat frame to a CL?

I'll work out the camber, I was messing around with all that stuff on the Vento for a while. Apparently it is a self adjusting clutch cable, does the adjuster ever fail?

The guy said it was actually a German built car, maybe that explains the oval indicators and flares (which are from factory cos they're riveted on and very neatly fitted)

My friend came with me to get the car, he knows a lot about all sorts of cars, said the clutch feels a bit strange. Also the owner said it has a really long clutch and it's been like that since he got it 6 years ago. Maybe that is just how it is. I don't know what a clutch is meant to feel like and I didn't stall once driving around the streets here so it all works fine. Might just put a bit of lube on it and see if it gets a little looser

The plan is to get it fixed but not resprayed body colour. The whole car needs a full respray so what's a bit of primer. I had a plan to spray the whole car matte black or a really dark matte grey. That with my wheels and low

Yes it is, rear left. I need to dig deeper to see if the lower part of the panel is nearing rust. There's a really small bubble on the passenger door as well. I suppose that's what you get from a life without being garaged...ever.

I take that as a compliment, but it's a Vento and it's automatic lol

What sort of engine mods can be done to the 1.8 8v for a bit more power? It's super nippy already but now that I've finally got a manual! A full exhaust and other performance mods are possible without worrying about the weak automatic and drone of the gears.

I'm 6'5", and even my GL with adjustable seats and wheel still don't get low enough for my liking. VR seats are on the upgrades list as I hear they adjust down even lower. But I don't know how he'd manage without any adjustment though.

I have a cl 3dr converted to vr6. I'm running vr6 seats and adjustable column so they must have been put in by someone along the way. I'm not that tall but my head I nowhere near the roof. Seat doesn't go back far enough though , need. Few more clicks back to be perfectly comfy. It's fine though.
