Today I flushed the coolant because it looks like rust water
It was all going well until I lost the drain plug in the engine bay, it's Lille the engine bay just swallowed it??? Has anyone got a spare that they wanna get rid off? Will I be able to get one from supercheapauto, really wanna get one ASAP to get back on the road.

Also getting a new MAF to sort out my power issues and a lock eccentric. To fix my key barrel.

Yesterday I finally had time to look more into this rough idle, loss of power and bucking. I was reading up online that I should look at cleaning the idle control value do here goes. I removed the value and had a look inside and it was pretty dirty (I'm new to going DIY, so please bare with me).
I then cleaned it our using carb cleaner and it seemed to do the job

And this is what came out

After putting it back in I did notice a more steady idle and the bucking seems to have gone (touch wood) but we will have to see. Keeping in mind she is rolling on 200,000k's. I'm also currently looking for a good place to do a engine recon. Anyone got any ideas, experiences, good and bad and prices?

        Thanks

I wouldnt go ahead with a engine reco unless it really needs one because of costs.
if your able to assemble the engine yourself i would do that save some labour costs
I dont think any mechanic down the street would know what a vr6 is especially here in melbourne.
I would do a leak down test and if its more then 10-15% thats when you would look into a reconditon.
not trying to scare ya or anything but ive gone a head gasket at 220xxx first week i bought the car and it cost me about $1500 or so just for top end rebuild .

Thanks so much for your info and reply Hakan, yeah thats the vibe I got i'm out on the west side of Melbourne allot of maky's here kinda scratched their heads when I told them its a VR6 and no one (of the 5 workshops ive sent inquiries to) has given me a proper quote yet. I dont have the experience to do it myself (but I would love to) thats why I'm looking at taking this route.

Its mainly for the lack of power, bucking im getting and just knowing that she has some life in her. TBH i was thinking along the $1500 for the whole engine not just the top end? Where did you get yours done, dont mind me asking.

Cool your around my area I did the dissembling and assembling my self but Saliba Engine reconditioners did my Head work. They take a while to do it but at the end its worth it. VR6s arnt so cheap to build ive just realized that with my current turbo build.also while your down there its worth changining your chains and guides + tensioner. maybe a mk4 headgasket to UP the compression i think it was .5 to 1 also valve guides and stem seals are a must
Ill be taking my car to a Dyno day at chaser on dynon rd West melbourne this Saturday 27th so if you want to see my car perform at 2:40pm feel free to come and watch but i dont think it would put down much power im hoping for it to make factory power or close to it

Ahh awesome yeah ill defs make a turn. I think im finally realizing that myself (VR6 rebuilds being a deep pocket exercise, But I have my eyes set on a VF supercharger, so Ill start selling a kidney and lung now already) lol.

Saliba is actually one of the people I contacted, haven't heard anything back just yet, but defs looking forward to it now!

Thanks so much again for the advise as much as I dont want to, I think im going to have to just get it up to a proper working condition for now and then pop i in the garage till I can spend more time on it . Its got allot of work that needs to be done and thats the exciting part about it!

                  Sorry for the late update,

Got this issue sorted now, got a new coilpack from eurorevolution and now there is no more bucking or loss of power (feels good to be driving on all six again ).

Next on the menu is doing the timing chain, any one have any ideas on how much it should be im gonna start calling up to find out availability and prices.

                  Thanks

It's got high km on it but would it really need to be replaced?

Haha 191k Kms is not high. Is there any noise from that side of the engine? Is it burning oil or sounding rough?
It sounds as though you've attended to all the main issues, so just enjoy it

LOL, I thought 191K was high. (@Stanton Sorry what do you mean 400 plus?). From what I can smell and see it is not burning oil and for the most part the idle is fine, some times it sounds rough and can jump up by itself and there seems to a bit of hesitation but that could be of the sparks and Im getting them with new leads replaced soon. Here is a quick vid I took of my engine at idle, not sure if the rattle in there is the one you are talking about?
