Just thought I'd comment again to say, wow that is an amazing job!

        Now for a couple questions...
On the front bumper, did you actually weld the new section in or did you just use epoxy type go stuff, and then go over and sand etc. Also, how much did you source the second bumper for?

Another thing about them BBs's you have. You mentioned adapters and "redrilling", care to share some light and tell me what you mean by adapters and redrilling? I'm under the impression that adapters just make the wheel stick our further? And redrilling....lost me there. For example, could you buy any old pair of 15"s and put them on your Golf. bang, straight bolt on?

        Cheers,
        Now owns a golf. Stoked.

          Cam how are we mate?

Adaptors are device used convert the stud pattern of the wheels... Say his hubs are 5x100 and his wheels are 5x114 or something like that...

And as for any ol 15's no for your GL if u get that u need stud pattern of 4x100 and an offset to suit... Offset or ET is how far the edge of the rim is to the hub bolt up point... Its all a bit confusing at first but once u read about it more u will underddatnd

Redrilling is getting the wheel holes redrilled into the correct stud pattern. For the bbs it involves getting the original holes welded up and then drilled by a wheel specialist. Adapters are like spacers except they allow u to run different wheel stud pattern but dont physically alter ur hubs.

Rays bbs fettish costs $$$$$ but worth it in the end imo!

hey ray.. for the rubbing issue. Is it only the back ?

You should take mk3vr6s offer. Just borrow his wheels for few weeks until you fix the problem. Otherwise it's going to kill your brand new tyres.

Louis, yeah it's only the back, only because I haven't done the fronts yet! Taking it to Matt's next week.

And cameo, what James and Pedro are saying is correct. Here are some pics.

Filling and redrilling - evorobin on these forums had them done. The original 5 stud pattern (no idea what the fitment was for) was filled, and a new 4x100 pattern was drilled in. Incredible thing was, the centrebore was exactly 57.0mm, which meant it went on our Golfs like standard wheels.
Filling is actually not necessary though; the only time you don't have to fill is when you're drilling the same amount of holes and the hub was flat-backed.

Adapters allow you to keep the original wheel untouched. In my case, the adapters had holes that allowed me to attach them to my brake hub, and studs were pressed out to allow fitment of other sized wheels.

And Pedro's right... it's a bit of a fetish and I've spent too much money on what seems to be just decorative circular pieces of metal But it's a bit of an addiction, this modding business
                  Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.

This was before they were smoked. Smoking it made it more inconspicuous, but the lighting suffered. That said, it's still very well visible.
