I think he is finally seeing the real costs of the build !
I'll be putting my VR6T back together soon as I have all the parts needed
He did mention he knew the cost of the build before he started.... Just because he hasn't posted constant updates on here doesn't mean the projects stalled
why don't you start a thread on yours?

Can you actually post anything constructive? Head spacers don't leak if done correctly either.
I am building this car for Chris and the price was all dealt with before the start of the project. We struck issues with suppliers for both clutch and ECU. It has now been corrected and engine went back in this weekend. So intercooler and exhaust next along with new brake setup.
Will get some more pictures when there are some worth taking.

Well this is a good and bad thread update. This is the car we were building for Chris. During tuning the gearbox took one run at 18psi and started whining worse than the mother in law. When stripped it had done internal damage to the ring gear and pinion gear.
To cut a long story short due to some personal reasons Chris didn't want to fix at this time and I came to an agreement to buy the car off of Chris as is and to take it to the next level.
So as of Friday night 5th December we had a VR6 Turbo with a dead box. I don't have a VR6 box at the moment but did have a V5 3.94, we stripped it and put the LSD in to the box, re-fitted to car at 9PM and test drove home....... Result......... WAY too short for a turbo VR6.
After completing some work on a customers car on the Saturday we re-removed the V5 box again and stripped it down in a grand total of 1 hour and 15 mins. I then transferred a gearset in to the V5 casing from a stripped down 1.8T box from my Corrado. Then it was put back in the car. It is still a little short for the power and will be way too short for proper power but it got us moving.
The reason for the rush was a 1/4 mile day today at Teretonga Park in Invercargill, we were up for a little fun. So at 9am we set off from Queenstown with Jaques in the VR6 and myself in my RS2. Having to run the VR6 at a paltry 12psi to try and save the box we had a couple of qualifying runs at 14.1 and 14.01 flat in VR6 and I managed a 14 flat in the RS2 also which wasn't bad for the old girl.
We set our brackets at 13.8 for the bracket racing and got paired together. Jaques then pulled out a stunning 13.83 at 105mph with myself only pulling a 14.07 again, there was a 13 in the RS2 but it had a weird hesitation later in the day for some reason. The RS2 was retired for the day and Jaques was through to the Semi finals of Sport Compact class.
He then ran another 13.86 at 104mph to win his heat, in the final he unfortunately had a gear miss and ran a 14.5 putting us out of the win, but to get a 2nd place on our first event in this car and first ever drag race event for M-Developments we were STOKED!!
The highlight of the day was that both cars drove there and back and full weight and ran full leather and even cruise control on both also. I am sure there is a very low 13 in this car possibly a 12 once we can dial the boost up and lose some weight out of it.
Unfortunately the 02A/J gears are just not made for the power, the car is now whining again in 3rd gear so the 6 speed I have will be going in. Which was my big fear with building this car for Chris all along. The engine is built for 20+psi and running this at even 12 psi is too much for the 5 speed.
I will get some more pics and spec of the car up as it progresses. We have ordered a new ECU to allow us to raise the boost to the proper levels we want to see.
Not bad for an old boat anchor 12V..... ;D
Oh and "stance" boys can kiss it, this was all about performance!!
Thoughts of moving to Aus have changed a little in past year or so but never say never. Probably only my RS2 I would think if I did though.
Usually just a matter of 'when', and followed by the phrase 'we're wondering why we didn't move earlier', but NZ certainly has its charm, can't say I'd swap Brissie back for Auckland though (even though it can turn cow-town on you at times). Luckily, I came here early enough to be able to dial in and out the accent as I need it.

I always thought the same, lived in Aussie for a year(Sutherlandshire) before moving to NZ and always thought I would be back. I am however really enjoying Central Otago where I live now. Wouldn't move to North Island at all, but South Island has a few things going for it IMHO.
