  • My Vento thread.

I'm new to VW's but the love is growing fast! I bought my Vento a few weeks ago after a previous love affair with a 1JZ Volvo 240 Wagon ended. It's an auto, it's slow, I've had my fun with fast cars.

    The day I got it.

When I got home the badge fell off lol.

    Mods so far:

    Weitec Hicon GT Coilovers.

Borbet Type A Replicas 15x8 +15. Will be stretching some Nankang 185's over them.

Deep front lip. Still not sure about this, it was designed for the American market (I think) so it doesn't quite fit right. May just go with an Aussie vr6 lip. I may have to remove it when I fit my Borbet Reps because I will be going more low.

Blaupunkt Toronto 410 BT headunit and front splits for *****s and giggles, and dancing bananas

Still plans for new front grill, darker window tint, some exhaust work, new steering wheel, clear front indicators (little things like that)

    Current problems:
    - PAS pump wines
    - PAS rack rattles
    - Big rip in steering rack boot
    - Hole in driver's side inner CV boot, fixed with Sikaflex lol
    - Burning oil smell, degreased the hot bits but still burning. Current solution: Close all air vents and turn fan off, don't go on long drives

Perfect colour . The lip is not US per se, it's just that your Vento has... well, a Vento front bar, which as you've discovered has slightly more overhang. A locally delivered duckbill will sit exactly the same, for perfect fit you either need to go a Golf front bar, or (some trimming involved with tabs) get a narrow US style front lip. Took me fitting my old VR front lip to mine to discover this, it's something suppliers often don't know (along with other variations) so sometimes you get surprised... but oh well.

Just my opinion, go the 'smoked' side repeaters instead of clear, I reckon it suits the blue/and an older car better.

Even your number plate is close to mine (can't remember it ATM, AY 98 ST from memory.)

I'm guessing it is a '95, if so, it's one of 65 Aus delivered in that year.

Oh, and I have a story about those auto gearboxs......

Ah, well maybe a Golf bumper will be on the mod list then lol.
I was gonna go smoked if I got a black Golf but I ended up getting this blue Vento, the plan is to get the clear indicator/reflector lights and tint them yellow. I think smoked lights on any car (other than black) is just like "I wanna change my lights and this is all that I could afford." haha
The number plate will be changing to euro plates eventually. Still thinking of ideas.
      Yes it's a '95
I've heard many stories about these auto's, but do tell ...this one seems to be in pretty good shape, luckily.

        Nice looking Vento,and great colour.

I bought a brand new one in Seprember 1993 when I lived in the USA.

Then moved to South Africa, and loved it so much, that in October 1995,bought another brand new one.
They both served me very well, and were both badged as Jetta.3s

Looks very nice! You could get the hella blue indicators? I think they'd match in with the car similar to smoked with black cars if your into that. Personally I got clear for the front just to be safe legally.

I was looking at a set of the Hella blue side indicators. Hella seems to be the way to go but tinting costs a few bucks haha, I may tint the clear ones blue! What's legal doesn't bother me too much, I work at night and barely drive during the day, don't speed (can't speed lol) and somehow in the past I've always managed to go under the radar (so to speak) when it comes to cops. Hence why I've decided to stretch tyres

Haha, not smoked spray, I mean proper smoked look lenses, like VR6 taillights.

I won't post any more pics in your thread as I'm sure the Mk3 section is more than tired of me whoring out my car, and this is your thread... but it's just funny how close ours started off... this is mine a few years back.

Get into the mods, if you want to experiment with your existing grill, I still have the one in that pic in the shed somewhere.

The only thing i would do with the stock grill is completely black it out, black badge and the rest matte black. There is one particular aftermarket grille I like but I won't be getting that yet.

Is the colour called Fjord Blue mica? I was looking at paint codes but the only one that matched the one in my boot was in 1998 apparently.

I see most people run 195's but I'll be running at +15 offset, that's quite a bit of poke... That's why I decided 185's, plus it's something a little different lol. Why DOES everyone run 195's? If someone can convince me to go with 195's I'll may reconsider my decision

No idea on the colour's name sorry.

Frankly 185s will make your wheels look tiny on an already somewhat awkwardly proportioned car, and you wouldn't exactly be at the forefront of the hectic stretch wave. But sure you can pull them off.

195's because a Mk3 is ment to be driven. And as Joe said you want the wheels to look in proportion.

I tested on willtheyfit.com and this is the difference. Stock offset is +35, right?

I think 35 is the lowest offset of stock mk3 wheels, highest being 45 according to my research...
