Things that I am planning is a schrick manifold, corrado throotle body and big bore intake, and then im planning on fixing up the doors and back bumper. Which after that I'll tackle the interior

But thats in short pretty much
There is no other way to mod a car like steve and all the other guys that steve mentioned has, pretty much everything went according to plan and a time fame was set and achieved. I really enjoyed this thread, its a real inspiration, im restoring my bug atm and im hopeless with the time frame lol, interior was supposed to be done in novemeber and that was a goal not achieved.

None the less, best of luck guys,

      • what steve is saying he has 114kw@ the front wheels, which is pretty good, that is the raw power the car puts to the ground, a SR20DE will be Lucky to get 80kw@ front wheels.

In most cases, cars lose 30% from the engine crank to the wheels, depending how well the drivetrain is designed on the vehicle, AWD or 4wd cars tend to lose more, due to the power deliveries to all 4 wheels.

        • so the numbers these guys are running may equate to close to 160kw at the flywheel? If thats the case its a fair whack better than a stock 128kw

          • Maybe not that much but something close to that equation I would say so! Its a mark that can easily be topped I think with alot of hard work and money

            • That's impressive Steve! With the big bore intake and Corrado throttle body, they'll open up the intake more since they're bigger than stock? So theoretically, what gains would you see from them?

the thing about modifying your car, is that there is no specific power rating for each component,

for lets say a intake.. there are number of factors that contribute to this, you could have the same car, same mods, and one might make more than the other, all depends how the car was treated, run in when you, and the tune of it, I guess that’s why people do dynos...

how many MK5 Gti's we have seen with the same software, give out different power outputs..

                  Whaaaa? What am I doing??

Ok ok though, 160 at the fly is pretty darn good. When you say it like that it seems more reasonable!

Im liking the dyno chart! Looks like the party starts at 4300.

                          • Well standard its obviously at 6500rpms
With chip I have been told 7300rpms (but I would not recommend it all the time, only once a month not even maybe)

I usually just hit 6500rpms or just push a tad over sometimes!

                            • The RPM limit is set by the ECU, and i know with a chip it allows you to change certain things with certain chips but is it possible to actually change the RPM limit to what you want with a chip?

Also how can u push just past 6500 if thats what the RPM limit is at or is that with the chip in it already.

If you dont mind me asking how much is a decent chip worth these days, cause im thinking about it when i get my car one of these days haha but i thought if they are still a bit pricey then i may as well put an aftermarket ECU (Motec) in and then i have all the freedom i want with it and i can tune it when and how i want.

                              Cheers

Hey Alex to answer some of your questions, the chip that I have is GIAC www.giacusa.com you can go there to find out more or the Sydney mechanic who is the distributor/ dealer is euroauto.com.au which is owned by Seb who did all of my work on the car

The chip allows you go push red line to 7300rpms, where it used to cut out at 6500rpms the chip keeps going. Its good but not always recommended to sit in the red line all the time

The chip is also programmed with code that works with exhaust, cams, and fuel maps

Hope that answers all your questions, but for more accurate and in detail speak to Seb at euro automotive!
