  • VR6 Fuel consumption

After reading lots and lots of ads before buying my VR6, I noticed ones like this:
    http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/VOLKSWAGEN/GOLF/details.aspx?Model=GOLF&__Nne=20&__N=4294962746+78 %20+4294962677+4294932693+834+285+257&Make=VOLKSWA GEN%20&State=ACT&silo=1003&state_id=78&distance=25 &Cr=0&%20seot=0&__sid=1128C7B38FE2&R=1417041&__Ns= pCar_Priv%20ateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCoun t_Int32|1||p%20Car_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&tre cs=1

that say their average fuel consumption is 7-8l/100kms, something I find VERY hard to believe.

Which leads to the obvious question, what sort of economy are people getting?

Now I know that I don't exactly drive mine nice all the time, but then I don't flat stick it everywhere either. I'm getting in the 10 - 12L/100km's range, mostly closer to 12.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

do a search, this has been discussed before at length! most peeps are getting about 10+ in town and obviously depends on how heavy your foot is!!! I used to get about 14-16 per 100

its possible to get mid 7s to 8s on the hwy. Stop start traffic is the killer. I usually average 10 - 11L / 100kms

7-8L per 100 is only possible if the guy is only doing highway driving.

I get about 11L on average I would say, I am quite a conservative driver. but yeah, your consumption depends on your foot and the loads you are carrying.

THE best I got was 6.8 /100 going constant 80km for about 20 Kms
usually about 8.5-10/ 100 depends how you drive it.

Put it in context I get about 380-400 daily driving. I have got 468 on that tank wih injector cleaners before going day trip to Hunters Valley.

9.8 for me usually. Can go as low as mid 8s with fwy cruising.

Will get into the mid teens when I mash the loud pedal.

Average of 7-8 is probably if you completely nanny it in every situation. A bit of a stretch I think.

I'm sitting on about 17L/100km at the moment, very short trips round town especially when I haven't driving the VR6 in a few days doesn't do much for fuel consumption.

                      Still enjoying it

The other weekend, my VR6 was being used to go from check point to check point on a scout expedition. 5 hours doing 35km/h in second gear. Stopping every 1km or so.

                            28l/100km

You guys also have to take into consideration the fuel that you put in your beasts

if you put the crap stuff in like woolies/caltex etc....your not going to get the best out of the engine...in fact you are doing considerable damage to it.

Try putting in mobile, bp or shell and see if you notice the differnce...i guarantee you will!

best way is to reset trip computer, fill up one week with the crap stuff and see how many ks you get and then the second week put the good stuff in and see what the outcome is.
