Yeah mate common problem is the "eccentric" part. Basically the hook at the end breaks and the lock can be pulled out. If i remember correctly they upgraded the piece to be beefier and u need to buy everything to make it fit tho not 100% sure after a trip to Loony.

Good thing is that its relatively cheap from the dealer. I suggest u bring ur entire mechanism to them and get them to match it up on the spot. They also need ur rego papers as they need ur VIN number

PS: Might as well do both sides now before the drivers side goes!!!

I wonder if the parts place at Liverpool would have said parts available in stock.

Anyone have any info on what part numbers I'm after, or have they simply replaced all the old (crappy) parts with the new ones so it's the only ones you can get?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Is it the whole door handle I need, something like this:

Shop over 10,000 VW & Audi parts in stock for same-day shipment. Use our extensive online catalog to find the OEM and Genuine parts you need fast.

Or is there a set of internals sans the handle itself?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Yeh its only one part of the internals that failed and u can buy that separately but just check to see if it fits the end of the door lock. Ive circled the part that is the cause.

Dont have a part no. on hand but a dealer should be able to get it. The dealership at Nepean ( a bit far awway for u but) had it in stock last time i was there.

Thanks to Golf Loon, who happened to be at this workshop thisafternoon as I was cruising past, I now have those new internal parts and it's all back together.

Once again, Golf Loon saves the day.

I have also spent the afternoon cleaning and polishing. I tell you what, the new polish I got today is FANTASTIC!

I will have to update this later when I get some new photos, but this scuff mark on the middle of the two doors is virtually non existant now:

Everything from Vacuum, leather cleaner, glass cleaner, amourall and good olf fashioned car wash had been over this vehicle today and it's looking a million bucks.

I want to go out tonight and take some nice shots of it, then some more in the daylight tomorrow. Will update the new shots when I do.

Also looking at some aftermarket guages, anyone have any suggestions??

I like the look of these:

Although it looks like the LCD markings are round the wrong way for an aussie car, but then it could just be me. Anyone in Aus that has a decent range?

that is damn hot! i am so jealous now... i really have to get my wheels on soon... only $200 left! (and 3 weeks till pay day... )

i say don't bother with those gauges tho... they are in mph instead of km/h as well... if you get stuff off ebay, it is better to get it from the uk/europe as it is more likely to fit - some parts you should be fine with though but steer clear of dashboard parts and headlights from the US.

On another note, where is this factory of Golf Loon's? I might need to take a drive out there one weekend...

Yeah I did notice the MPH part if the guage, thats why I'm looking for something similar.

I'm assuming there is two little lights that are supposed to light up the instruments at night? One on the speedo one on the tacho?

Seems I only have one on the speedo which means you can't see the other side so well, not that seeing the tacho is a concern, but it would be nice to be able to see the fuel guage

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

                      hey hawk.

I have white dials in my VR6. They are in kmph up to 260. The look good. but at night they dont illuminate. Its just the dash light shinning on them.

Check out www.awesome-gti.co.uk. The one that have is sweet.

Unfortunatly they arnt white, or in kmph but the illumination is sweet.

I wouldnt mind getting somt like these but in white.

There should be some real nice black backlight ones from ebay.com but postage is the killer with that seller.

the only difference between the way that is and the way i want mine is the foggies on the front. i want black ones of those too
